Once the flame is in a "open" space, where gravity isn't pulling it down, the flame would expand at all directions.
From the explosion, I am guessing that the weaker parts of the space stations broke and its from there the flames excaped from inside of the station with some force, making great pressure and breaking apart the hole station.
Also... space, no sound = How did she noticed that the station blow up ? MAGIC !? XD

Be happy to know that I know, I spent a while thinking how the fudge am I going to draw space explosions. In the end I said "screw it" and smudged some random orange-ness.
And she saw a flash of light reflected from the ship she's repairing. Those could never meaning anything good.
Feels great to know someone actually noticed the "little" mistakes.
