G123u β€” No PMDE - Changing Eye Texture

Description Edit (09/08/11): The file image was too large and DA cut off the bottom. TT^TT
It was suppose to say, "Look! Her eyes change! If your model's eyes didn't change, then you must've done something wrong. Remember, some models have more than one eye texture, so you'll need to find the "default" one."
If you can't read the text, download the image.
I know it's kinda messy and not as neat or cool as other tutorials, but hey. It's helpful.

For the "Find the new eye texture" part, what I mean is, if you're using a Lat model, find an eye texture that has the same/similar shape as the default Lat eye. If you're using an Animasa model/base/head, then find an eye texture that has the same/similar shape as the default Animasa eye textures.

If you didn't understand something, feel free to ask me in the comments or something.

That's not quite correct - any texture can work on any model.
This tutorial simply required you to have the same... shape of eye, per se, so you don't need to have to adjust the eyes to fit manually in PMD Editor.

As for your question, there's two situations I can think of:

1. The texture's UV mapping was reset so the texture doesn't 'fit' the model properly.
2. The texture's file name was changed and so the model can't find it.

If you could further elaborate on the problem you're experiencing, perhaps we can figure out just what exactly is going wrong.

G123u In reply to Bostonterrier123 [2015-12-30 04:34:38 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the late reply! If something like that is happening, it's likely that the new eyes aren't meant for the model, and you need to manually edit them. I'd recommend checking out eitherΒ this tutorial Β orΒ this one.
Another (less likely) possibility is that the model doesn't use eye textures, in which you'll need to apply and then edit the eyes yourself.

how do you add eye textures to a model that doesn't have eye textures?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

G123u In reply to mariaandpichu [2014-06-15 16:54:43 +0000 UTC]

The easiest way would be to add the textures in PMD Editor. This method will not work if the model does not have a preset eye texture.

I downloaded a head and it already has eyebrows but I would like to add eyes I downloaded but I just have trouble doing that. Can u tell me how?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

G123u In reply to missrubi321 [2015-01-06 03:20:41 +0000 UTC]

If the eyes aren't meant to naturally fit the head, then you'll need to use PMD Editor to manually attach and adjust the eye texture (ie: you'll need to UV map the eye texture).
For UV mapping tutorials, I'd recommend this one or this one.

Oh because people keep making bases without eye textures and it really pisses me off that you can't put eye textures on those model bases.

G123u In reply to MidnightNael [2014-04-11 22:53:18 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the late reply, but have you double-checked the eye textures used? This little tactic doesn't always work with every model and eye texture. For an example, if you use Lat eyes on an Animasa model, the eyes will look all weird and you'll need to UV Map them in PMDE. In your case, it may also be a problem of file naming. If the original eye texture is named a much of jumbled letters and symbols, then you'll either need to:
a) Change your computer's unicode setting to Japanese and re-download the model.
b) Rename the textures using Latin-English characters, then opening the model up in PMDE and re-applying the textures.

Hope this helps!

Ok...so, how do you figure out which texure if for which model?? Is there a way?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

G123u In reply to WaWaWorld [2014-01-12 19:57:55 +0000 UTC]

Many times, a model's textures will be named after what they're used for. For an example, an eye texture might be named as "me.bmp" or "eye.bmp". You can also guess what the texture is for. Using eyes again, an image file with a single eye is more than likely an eye texture.

Alternatively, you can open the model in PMDE and view what textures are for what parts.

idontfearyou In reply to G123u [2013-12-26 02:55:28 +0000 UTC]

The first part. Like, on my computer, I don't know where to find the textures in the first place. And I wouldn't know what to click on in the actual program.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

G123u In reply to idontfearyou [2013-12-26 23:32:54 +0000 UTC]

There shouldn't be a need to use any program except for Explorers.exe

Usually, the textures are found in the same location as the .pmd/.pmx model. If not, they're usually in a folder, which is in the same location as the .pmd/.pmx model.

G123u In reply to Onigiri-Samaa [2013-11-06 00:45:07 +0000 UTC]

You can try resizing the image using an image editing program, such as MS Paint or Paint.NET. This requires some extreme precision however.

Another way is to use PMD Editor and UV map the eye texture.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

G123u In reply to skogsvisan [2013-09-05 02:26:27 +0000 UTC]

It's possible that your model has "camera eyes", which is when the eyes are moved back into the head slightly, causing the eyes to seem as if they're always following the "camera".

If that's not the problem, then it's possible that your eye textures don't fit the model, and need to be UV mapped in PMD Editor.

What I do is after I download the character, I move the entire folder to my model folder on MMD. That way, all the texture files are included and in your model folder (like whenever you're opening a model) it won't show all the extra files c: Super easy and I just stumbled upon it. If that doesn't work, go to your folder that holds MMD and click UserFile, then model, and move ALL the files to that folder. c: I think the first way is easier though.

Vikutta-Perex In reply to CarnelianBrilliant [2013-10-12 04:49:21 +0000 UTC]

The files are all extracted. I can move that folder anywhere and she will remain colorless.
She is rigged, most likely because she was a Win 100% Character (Lily) XDD
I am well with computers, just not at editing models.. XDD But i do thank you for your help..

Oh. Sorry for the inconvenience. It just works every time I do it. My characters are almost always colorless but if I move the whole folder, (they don't even have to be extracted) then all the files are included so it's all there. Well, I hope you can fix it soon. c:

G123u In reply to Vikutta-Perex [2013-06-20 22:30:25 +0000 UTC]

Then it's most likely an extracting error.
Try changing your system locale to Japanese and re-extracting the model. This should fix the texture problem with the model.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vikutta-Perex In reply to G123u [2013-06-20 23:34:08 +0000 UTC]

Its already Japanese locale. Whoever uploaded it looks like they intentionally did this... Theres another way i can find out though.. i can look into the pmd file itself with notepad to see what files its looking for (By having notepad find all .tga files, theres a name for them)
