Past/Bio
Cev grew up in Chasma, Pakistan, the home of the biggest nuclear power plant in the country. Both of his parents worked at the power plant, and his older brother had school later than him so after school he would go to the power plant and sit with his mother, who was a secretary.
One day however, while he was waiting for his mother an accident happened when multiple fuel rods of one of the reactors collapsed, causing radioactive gas to be leaked into the air. This gas was immediately drawn to Ercevik, activating his meta gene and being absorbed by him. He was taken to the closest hospital after feeling dizzy, and was tested for radiation poisoning. The doctors were puzzled after he reported positive but was not contaminating anything.
That was until his eyes and hands started glowing and the radioactive levels in the room went off the charts; and their curiosity turned into fear. His parents, not knowing what to do with him, agreed for him to stay at the hospital for the foreseeable future. His story became well known across most of Pakistan and the Middle East, and donations came in from across the region for him. A facility grew at the hospital for doctors to come and study his abilities, which meant over the years he did manage to get a grip of his ‘gifts’- he taught himself how to fly and absorb and project energy, among other things.
A few years went by, and the hero Captain Atom started to become a more well known figure. Cev first heard about this hero when Captain Atom joined the league, and was convinced by the doctor who was experimenting at the time that Captain Atom could help him. Deciding that the least he could do was ask, Cev stole his training suit and broke out of the facility to find the Captain. After a few months he ended up outside the Hall of Justice, the most obvious place he thought he could find him, which was why it was his last resort. He was prepared to wait as long as he needed to, days, even weeks but after a few hours he caught sight of a few heroes flying towards the hall- Captain Atom and Superman. As fast as he could, he flew up to meet them. Startled, the two heroes prepared to blow him out of the sky but also intrigued, they gave him a chance to explain himself first.
He introduced himself, and then explained how he had gotten his powers. How he had been experimented on and how no scientist or doctor could help him. The Captain, realizing what the young boy was there for, interrupted him, assuming he wanted his help. The League agreed to take in the boy for starters, and after Captain Atom consulted Flash and Batman, two heroes who already had sidekicks, he agreed to take Cev under his wing.
Cev was worried that the hospital would try to get him again, but the league assured him that after receiving his parents permission, he was allowed to stay with the league. Being already a Pakistani national hero, Cev decided against wearing a mask, but took the hero name Ion. The league continued to help him out, by letting him stay in DC. He also got to meet the other sidekicks, Kid Flash, Robin, Speedy, and Aqualad, the later two of which became his best friends. When Batman proposed bringing him to the hall with the other sidekicks to Captain Atom, the Captain initially resisted but Batman managed to convince him of the group's chemistry.
Cev was then present at the Hall on July 4 with the rest of the sidekicks, and was extremely excited. Though he sympathized with Speedy after he stormed out, he decided to keep his cool for once and stay with the rest of them. He pushed, along with KF for them, Robin, and Aqualad to respond to the Cadmus alert, and when they did he flew around excitedly, zooming up and down the elevator shaft when Kaldur had to calm him down and remind him why they were there.
Once he had his head back on he played his part in their semi-successful mission, but was beaten up badly by Blockbuster. When the building collapsed, he managed to keep them alive with an energy field before Superboy could free them.
Once the league showed up, Ion expected Captain Atom to be furious. And though the Captain was upset about his ‘lack of respect for authority’ as he called it, he allowed Ion to join the team.
Though disappointed Roy decided not to join the team, Cev still was excited and fit in well, eventually moving into the cave. He and Artemis also hit it off pretty quickly, playing off each other’s sarcasm. From the moment he met Miss Martian he was weary, but they became friends. He also becomes close friends with Rocket, as they find similarities in their powers.
After Season 1, Cev starts dating Zatanna. They’re together for a while, but grow apart, so they break up. Kaldur then sets Cev up with Garth, and they date for a few years. By Season 2 though, he’ s back with Zatanna, though their relationship is strained while on 2 different teams with very different schedules. On the Team he leads missions for Nightwing, acts as a friend and advisor, and when Dick decides he wants to stretch his legs, Cev is more than happy to play mission control. As Kaldur is his best friend, Cev is one of the only people he tells before going double agent. Dick doesn’t know this until he is with Zatanna when she gives him Artemis’s glamour charm, but once he knows Cev helps him a lot more with that particular situation. During this time he also finally comes to terms with the origins of his powers- that he’s a meta human, and the nuclear explosion was the traumatic event that triggered the gene. By the end of it all, with his best friend Kaldur leading the team again, Cev accepts a position within the league but continues to help with missions for the team.
By season 3, Cev is just another member of the league, as well as a college student. He has also developed his connection with his powers to a point where they aid him, but are not all of him; he now prefers short range attacks and an almost stealthy approach to just flying and blasting. Him and Kaldur are still as close as can be and he’s reconnected with Will thanks to Artemis. He and Zatanna are also still together, now living together in DC. When Batman leaves he’s conflicted, as he wants to stay with Aquaman and Zatanna but sympathizes with Batman, as well as not wanting to upset Troia and her diplomatic mission. Eventually he finds a balance when Dick asks him for help and he joins the Markovia op, taking a “leave of absence” from the league. This hurts his relationship with Zatanna, who disagrees with his decision and stays with the League. To appease her and save his relationship, he agrees to rejoin the league when all of the kids join the team.
A few months after he rejoins the league, Ion is sent on a routine surveillance mission to Bialya along with Black Canary and Katana. The mission goes south when the three fall into a trap and are separated. Ion falls under the control of Psimon, and the other two are forced to leave him behind. For the next half a year, Ion worked as a member of Onslaught. He is fully conscious, but due to Psimon’s illusions he believes he is doing what he is supposed to. During this time he encounters Fission and Proton, two operatives with similar meta powers to him. He later discovers their identities– his sister and brother, Safina and Musharraf. Almost a year passes before a Justice League squad encounters him and Onslaught in Rheulasia. Captain Atom, Aquaman, and Zatanna refuse to let the lead go and Ion is eventually rescued by a contingent from the Team led by Tigress.
His brainwashing is cleared by Martian Manhunter and he soon resumes his duties within the league, but much of his energy is focused on finding his brother and sister. Zatanna calls on him more for moral support than anything else when facing the dilemma with the Chaos Lords.
After Zatanna tells Dick about how she thinks Conner is alive, Cev is the next person they tell after he’s returned from a longer stint in space, including a visit to New Genesis. He’s slightly bothered that she didn’t confide her suspicions in him, but helps them gather the rest of the original team before they head into the Phantom Zone.
