My experience with vectoring cars is not that massive, but if you look at any vector illustration based on an existing object/stock then you apply the same rules... draw bases, set boundaries, colour!

I like the style you've used for this illustration, I think it looks great with the "object" and the balance of detailing in the engine and exterior of the car. However, the level of detailing of the engine I feel isn't matched to the rest of the car.

I'd be tempted to add more contrast in the use of gradients as they are very soft at the moment. With the use of black line art on a black car, it's almost redundant. Consider adding some light grey lines along with the black on some areas of the car to where the light would catch. This would not only help balance the level of detailing but also make the line art stand out a bit more. Of course don't apply the highlighting line along all of it, just in key areas... for instance near the windows where you have a high concentration of light.

I really like the detail in the chrome areas, I think these are perfect! I'd be proud of this car illustration... it's awesome!

I love the idea! The American Racing wheels are a favorite of mine, and I personally like the engine detailing, since that's the most important part of the car. I would recommend adding some sort of reflection to the paint though, as it currently looks like primer. You could reflect an entire object or scene, or add generic highlights and dark areas like on some cartoons.
