Judging 2/3 (busy so I will post)
Really cute little foal and the anatomy and colours go beautifully together. The way you did the lighting and background compliments the foal's colours perfectly.
The only thing I'd say is that the horse doesn't seem to blend into the background as much as it could.

As *having a handler* were optional, I opted to don't add it to the picture. That's a liberty picture , so the horse must (for me) be in the spotlight , all the freedom inside, and a handler wouldn't go well in here...
About the shadows, I think it's a bit unfair because it's about style, the style should be judged and no how the artist must do it... If I wanted a really realistic drawing I would put much more details and all my skills to make it just like in real life, but of course as everybody I'm not perfect. So If i have done that as realistic as possible It wouldn't look really good as, for example, markstewart , he is an amazing artist and I would really love to become just like him, I'm not the owner of all art skills so all I'm reading now Would fit well in that occasion .
About the sketch, each of us has a style of sketch, my sketches should pass the impression and help me to find lines. It's constructive what you have said, but I might don't carry that to my life, because as I said too "it's about style", and I will keep that in mind.
I'm not a professional artist anyway I work with art in my real life, I do oil paintings and the digital art (I'm a graphic designer), they are already around the world, scientific and artistic.
And finalizing: yeah I felt the same when did the foal, he wasn't really fusing to the background.
Don't be afraid! I'm not being rude and I don't wanna to, but I'm just letting you know my opinion .Anyway thank you for the judging.

I appreciate that it was optional, it only counted for 2/100 points so if you chose to do it you would get some sort of reward from it.
And yeah I understand what your saying but well if I worded it in a differant way maybe you could have made the shading stand out a bit more? Just for example darkening the shadows would have improved it a bit. I dunno it's your style you can chose however you want to use it
Your welcome I guess...

he's such a handsome boy :3 i adore his design!
and although the background is kept simple, there's something on it that fascinates me! i guess it's the colors and the ground :3

i think it fit's the image :3 so the background looks totally fine to me!
^^ i do the sketching and then the lineart. when it's done it depends on my motivation where i go on. sometimes i do the flats, sometimes i start with the background
like for my latest deviations i started with the background :3
