I'm part Habsburg by blood, for real, and seeing poor Charlotte dredged up like this breaks my heart. You are aware she went completely crazy, aren't you? Can't we just let the dead rest in peace? The European aristocracy of a century or more ago was quite incestuous, so I happen to be related to Nicholas II, also pictured in your gallery, as if he and his family weren't put through enough! C'mon! Post red carpet photos of Miley Cyrus with duct tape over her mouth and leave the honored dead of another age well enough alone!!! These were good people... you don't know how good they really were...

I will continue to do so, because this way I honor the historical figures that I admire so much

My misunderstanding, and I hope you will forgive me. I have encountered some vile attitudes toward the aristocrats of other ages amongst the younger generations of my own society, often informed by economic envy and the socialist education that seems to be all that is available these days. A man who went to my Church (admittedly, a convicted felon) once looked me straight in the eye and told me the Czar of Russia, Nicholas the Second, and his family deserved to be murdered as they were. I was shocked, as if a violent, Marxist bicycle mechanic would know anything about what happened at the end of the Romanov dynasty! Nicholas was the wrong Czar at the wrong time, but being weak and indecisive does not justify homicide, and the children had done nothing but be born into a good family. I sometimes feel like no one understands or cares. I tell my friends that aristocratic ancestry and a dollar and fifty cents will get you a Coke some places, but not everywhere. If I talk to people about my family background at all, more likely than not they think I'm making it up or presuming to be a better person than they are. The truth of history is, there once were exalted families who lived in splendor, and they ran the world. That was another planet from this one, and I grieve its loss...
