Cheers! You can watch the process here -->Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbUfJo…
I use multiple layers and reference throughout the process.

Man, this one is sick. Really love the light and the colours you got here! I think the two boulders in the foreground are pulling my attention a bit much and maaaaaybe just maybe I would add a few blues here and there in the big cast shadow on the cliff, but I'm nitpicking, really. Good stuff!

Thanks! I can agree with the rock takeing too much attention, since it so centered. Perhaps the highlight should be less. Or just make it smaller. Great feedback

A magical landscape! The rock that looks out into the sea resembles the face of a knight thirsting for moisture, as if his image was left in stone after a defeat in a combat battleΒ

It looks beautiful - I like the way the brush strokes look and how you painted the water/rocks and clouds too!Β
If there is something that feels a bit off then those are the brown streaks in the sky:Β

They don't seem natural.Β Β

Other than that - wonderful work!Β

Thank you for the kind words! I updated the sky! I agree the under-painting was showing a bit too much

Yeah, I agree. Those weird streaks are the only part that's dragging down an otherwise excellent landscape.

Have you done those tutorials from John Park's Gumroad? Just asking bc I see some similarities in your style, which I really like. If u did, is it worth it?

Yes I did a while back. I tried the "Omega Painter Bundle". If money isn't an issue then go for it. Most bang for your buck though would be the "Intro to Painting Landscapes". It has a very structured approach. which is what I think you see in this painting. But colour theory, value separation, composition, perspective and all that isn't covered in it.Β Β

Most definitely a landscape with commendable depth, which projects a strong sense of place and a vivid impression of early summer... The different shapes and textures on display here, be they sea, rock or earth, are impeccably rendered, with just the right level of detail, while the composition makes the picture very dynamic. Should I venture a suggestion, though, perhaps I would say that I am not that fond of the semi-apparent brown strokes left in the upper part of the sky -- they look a tad sketchy, which doesn't do proper justice to the rest of picture. But that is a minor point, really. Above all, this is a very immersive piece which instantly draws you in and, on a personal note, is strongly reminiscent of half-lived, half-dreamt trips to the North Sea coast of England at various ages.

I'm glad you like it! I agree about the sky. It got left behind at the end as I didn't plan to take this painting to such a high level of finish. However, I do like when the under-painting shows through; when done right that is.
Cheers!

It's amazing how you can fool your brain as long as you get the colours and light right. I keep seeing details that aren't there. You got the shadows and light perfectly and the colours are spot on too. Especially I love the sea. You resisted going all out blue and green and instead gave it subtle shifts of browns and grey, giving it much more life. The clouds are great too. Love the thunderhead building.

This would definitely be worth developing further with little touches of detail here and there.

Yes! I was so pleased with the shifting colours of the sea, I had great reference. It gave it a very realistic look without much detail. Yes! I do love painting clouds!
I remember you from a couple years back. You always give great and thoughtful comments! It's wonderful. Made me very excited when i just started painting, still does. I hope you are doing great!

I'm glad you think so! It definitely has a great base to continue on. For now though, onto a new painting!

I'm still lurking but there has definitely been a lull in my activities. I photograph, paint (sometimes) and enjoy other peoples art. I'm very happy if any of my comments gave you a boost.

Looking forward to what you dream up next!
