Description
Laquintasaura was a small basal Thyreophoran dinosaur, meaning it was a very distant ancestor of the heavy armored ankylosaurids and the stegosaurids, its closest relative was the North American Scutellosaurus, although laquintasaura hasn’t been found with osteoderms so it is unknown if it has body armor or retain some feathers like the basal Ornithischians. Laquintasaura was a meter in length and lived 200 million years ago, on the very beginning of the Jurassic. Laquintasaura was found with many individuals of different age, which may suggest they lived in groups when they were alive. It is the first dinosaur to have been discovered in Venezuela, originally identified as a Lesothosaurus until better material allows it to be given its own genus.
