I have to give Bryke credit for going in the direction they did with LOK. I mean, I know Aang had to be dead for the story to continue, but it was still a huge thing for them to do in a cartoon (albeit, a cartoon with a freakishly high adult fanbase). Most cartoons operate under the "nobody ever dies, EVARR!! unless they're, like, really, really evil or something" rule, so it's really neat that they took the story in a more mature direction.

Agreed, however, it's not like this was new territory for Bryke. Several people died semi-on-screen in the original, they showed a severe mental break down that lead to hallucination and extreme paranoia, in some sense they showed child and wife abuse (Zuko, Ursa, Azula.), continuing on with this they showed treason, and a mass international war. The show, while for children, is extremely educational and morally based in good lessons. It shows adult themes in a way children and look and not be scared, but understand.

Yeah. I was surprised at how they went with the mature route, but I was very pleased with it. They've done a very good job of presenting the characters without losing the aspect that made ATLA so amazing.
