So, uh...I kind of ended up going nuts on the backgrounds on both this page and the next. I really wanted these backgrounds to be more fun instead of a chore to draw for me, and furthermore, if I didn't start putting some serious effort into making them look cool, how was I ever going to be able to have this story properly convey my enthusiasm for the sci-fi aesthetic in general?? So I went back to my collection of sci-fi references (*cough* Buzz Lightyear *cough cough*), sat down, and decorated these blank halls with whatever looked cool and fit the setting.

I also ditched my usual approach of merely painting the backgrounds and instead rendering them in ink and coloring them like I do the characters. I think I can get away with this approach when illustrating technological settings or objects with a lot of hard corners without it looking too inconsistent with my more painted natural backgrounds.

No, that is not a bar. Nor is the sign a very poor attempt to cover up a name like "Magical Barsign." This is merely...a place for the tasting of refined liquids from all across the galaxy! Completely different from a bar, which of course we can't have in a G-rated setting, am I right
