So, I watched the Steven Universe movie and was...well...not disappointed? It was actually better than I thought it was gonna be, but it was okay in standards of story. My favorite part of it save for certain moments (and the movie's actually full of charming, likable moments) was the inclusion of Spinel. I can't help but compare her to Zim in the degree that they're both well-meaning and annoying, as well as (at least at one point) very oblivious to the fact that the people they admire basically abandoned them. I know the show was partly inspired by Invader Zim (especially on Peridot's part) so I feel like Spinel's backstory was partly inspired by Zim's. I kinda like that, especially how they incorporated the song with it. It was...heartbreaking. There are parts I don't like about it, like how the show/movie seem to be trying to build Steven up by tearing Rose/Pink Diamond down and ripping away any form of likability to her character, but at the same time, say what you will, but Spinel's situation is a great metaphor for abandonment.

It's like...this movie itself is a great metaphor for the series as a whole - it's got a bunch of good moments and episodes and morals and songs, but it's bunched up with a bunch of mediocre stuff, too. The movie perfectly encapsulates that. I liked it, but it's definitely not a favorite of mine. Still, I'm definitely excited for season 6 - mainly because the voice of Steven said HIS favorite episode hasn't even come out yet, and I'm VERY curious as to what that could possibly be. It also gives me hope that this next season might have a bit more quality than the others have been lately. Not that I hated the other seasons, honestly the finale was rushed but certainly filled more gaps than the SVTFOE finale did (seriously, I could write a whole review as to why THAT finale was ABYSMAL) but at least gave me some satisfaction and went a direction with one of the parts I didn't think it was gonna go, but still the quality of the show DID take a nose dive after the Peridot Arc. I'm just saying.

...wow, I'm talking an awful lot about Steven Universe in an Invader Zim piece, aren't I? X'D Honestly, I actually like Invader Zim better? I dunno, it felt like it knew what it was and that had it continued it would've evolved into something more. ESPECIALLY if Enter the Florpus gave us any indication - if I were to recommend either the Steven Universe Movie or Enter the Florpus, I'd DEFINITELY promote the latter because it had WAY more heart. Yeah. I know what I said. Invader FRIGGING Zim having HEART? And more heart than STEVEN UNIVERSE? It sounds crazy, but, HOLY CRAP! It was actually beautiful in a sense and actually improved the cast! Like, everyone was super likable, even GAZ! I don't even like Gaz all that much! She was always super boring and one note, but in the movie she acts like an ACTUAL SIBLING instead of a vengeful demon. And don't get me started on Prof. Membrane - he was the best part of that film. Like, I always loved him and stuff but this film just confirmed ALL of my suspicions of his character. It was just BEAUTIFUL!

I just loved Enter the Florpus so very much, like, it's the perfect follow-up the the Invader Zim show save for a couple things they left out. But I can't really hold that against the movie since they had a limited time and it did NOT have to be as awesome as it was, but they went FULL OUT. The animation was frigging gorgeous, like I didn't notice this before, but did any of you notice how WELL ANIMATED Invader Zim is? How dramatic their movements are? People keep saying Steven Universe's animation is the epitome of animation, but why doesn't anyone talk about Invader Zim's? It put SO MUCH more effort than it needed to. Enter the Florpus just flipping blew me away and made me appreciate the show more than I ever did.

Anyways, to anyone who's watched Steven Universe the Movie and Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus, I'd like to hear from you - which movie did you guys like more?
