I don't play DnD either, I'm just basing what I know on what's seen in TBBT, every video game RPG ever and that episode in Gravity Falls where they play Dungeons, Dungeons and more Dungeons.

May I make a recommendation, then? I know something that is like DnD, but without the pen/paper or the dice. All you'd need is a laptop/computer with the capacity to play dirt cheap Steam/GoG games.

There is a pair of games called Knights of the Old Republic. Yes, they are Star Wars games, but even if you're not a die hard fan of the movies, they're worth checking out. For one thing, they are not burdened with getting details about the movies spot on, seeing as they're set 4000 years before Episode 4. Why I recommend this to pretty much anyone is the story. The first one, in particular, has a twist that would make even M. Night Shyamalan blush, but why I would say this is a DnD with the Star Wars name is how combat and skill checks work.
The general gist is that it works on a d20 system. Numbers determine success or failure of your character's ability to disarm mines, pick locks, hit enemies etc. Beefing up your numbers works wonders, but it all comes down to a roll of the metaphorical dice, and you don't even have to take my word for it. The Honest Trailer for these games calls them a DnD clone. If you are going to get them, one thing you MUST do is get the second via Steam, because of the mod workshop, specifically, the Restored Content Modification. Without that, the sequel is unfinished.
I know these games like the back of my hand, because, like Spyro, I played them religiously as a child.
