Oh wow. I like her! What's her name again? Maybe you could do a comic with her in it? What do you think? And you know how you say that you make "Sonic Trash?" Well, I think it's the opposite of trash! I think it's great like a delicious chocolate ice cream cake! ^^)

Whoa. I was just looking back on this piece because it makes me happy, and I saw your comments. I am going to start a webcomic featuring her, and I'm glad you think she's pretty. She's my fursona, actually.

Nice! I'll actually watch your DA page now to see it! I think she's an attractive tomboy! I can't wait to see the webcomic! Maybe you could animate it and turn it into sensational Flash series on YouTube! You know, made in Adobe Flash?

JD-Illustrates In reply to The21stCenturyGamer [2016-04-08 03:22:40 +0000 UTC]

Well, I hope you're patient, because I haven't actually started the comic yet. I'm waiting on certain events in my life to calm down, so perhaps a few weeks before I throw myself into a comic page.

Also, the animation path is one I will travel down, but not quite yet. I don't have the equipment. When I do practice it, Luna will be the first candidate. 😊

Don't worry! Take all the time you need! And when you go to get equipment, make sure you get a high end computer so you can render videos very fast. Maybe something like this (just a recommendation): A Z170 motherboard, Intel Core i7-6700k, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 or 980 Ti (or whatever you want), 16GB of DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, 1TB or above HDD, etc? These computer specifications will help you out a lot, BTW! Along with USB condenser microphone like a Blue Yeti, Audio Technica AT-2020, Razer Seiren, etc. or whatever is in your budget. All of this stuff is to help you get started with some good equipment! I'm not being pushy. If you can't afford it, I understand. Have a good day!

Whoa... I think the fact that I don't know what half of those things are means that I am not ready to try that. 😳 At any rate, I don't think you're being pushy. It's nice when someone is interested in my art, and now I have a brand new idea to boot. I would love to do animations, but I understand that they are very difficult and time-consuming, so I think I'll be sticking to a Webcomic for now. Especially since my "budget" is a grant total of 0. 😄

Oh. Well, the Intel Core i7-6700k is a computer processor, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 is a high end graphics card, the Z170 is an Intel motherboard meant for gaming and other intense things, and the microphone was for the animations if it has voice acting in it. Anything else?

Oh.

My.

GOD!

Jesus, hold me! I think I've died and gone to heaven!!!

This is so freaking beautiful that I don't know how to put it into words! I really, really just started crying. I'm completely serious. I'm freaking crying right now because this is so freaking beautiful.

Okay. I'm gonna try to be professional for a minute.

This pose just SCREAMS Luna's personality. Her arms and legs are spread from her body in a very open stance, which expresses extreme confidence in herself. Looking at her face, I honestly feel like someone just challenged her to battle and she's about to whoop some @$$.  The coloring is absolutely GORGEOUS (including the colored lineart) and I sincerely hope you don't mind if I try to emulate it in my future pieces. ESPECIALLY her bionic arm. (Because metal is hard to color 😰) And her hair is absolutely beautiful! I usually draw the two curls next to her face and kind of consider that her signature "style", but this has reminded me that hair is... well, HAIR. Aside from the fact that Luna is freaking addicted to hair products, being half cat and all, her hair would be whooshing around when she moves.

Okay, I hope that it's acceptable for me to point out the few, tiny things that I noticed that didn't conform to her design. I think there's three total. The first and biggest one is the lack of black fur rimming her eyes, but I honestly almost didn't notice that so I can't really call you on it. 😆  Also, the Inhibitor on her robotic wrist is supposed to be a lime green, but on the reference she is using her powers so it's REALLY hard to tell. (I'm gonna upload a real reference soon! So stoked!) The last thing was how her cybernetic arm connected to her shoulder. Again, the reference that you had didn't show this, but Luna's left shoulder is covered in a metal plate (think Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood). That plate is surrounded by some nasty scar tissue where fur doesn't grow. Blegh.

This seriously made my day and probably my week as well. I really, really hope that you and me can do another art trade sometime! And if you don't mind, what art program are you using? I've been noticing this a lot lately, but my program (MyBrushes Pro for iPad Air) just doesn't seem to be up to par. I'm thinking about saving up and upgrading to a Wacom tablet.

Galaxynite In reply to JD-Illustrates [2016-03-21 16:13:11 +0000 UTC]

Oh gosh! No! No dying, please!! XDD
I'm so glad that you like it that much! I had so much fun with her pose and design and colors and everything! I just went a little wild XD

Her pose was super fun because she definitely struck me as a character that just oozes attitude XD After seeing her sharp teeth, I just had to come up with something super sassy and smug looking for her!
And I don't mind at all if you want to use this style in the future!  By all means, go right ahead!  And I can definitely relate about coloring metal, for obvious reasons!!  It's hard, but it's fun!  Her hair was very possibly my favorite part! The moment I saw her, the only thing I could think was "look at all that HAIR TO PLAY WITH!", haha!

I don't mind you pointing those out, at all! In fact, I'm glad you did! I would want my half to be as accurate as possible so that you could be completely happy with it!  I fixed and updated the three problem areas-- is that better?

I would love to do another trade with you, sometime! I had so much fun working on this and seeing your part as well that I would no doubt do it again in a heartbeat! ;D
And no problem! I use a program called Clip Studio Paint.  It's a really great program, and it really easy to figure out as well as very reasonably priced in comparison to some of the more popular programs like Paint Tool SAI I think that if you want to test yourself even further, a Wacom is definitely the way to go! I have one myself and it has lasted me a little less than 7 years.  I totally recommend a Bamboo, but most Wacom tablets are top notch and just a matter of preference on what functions you want it to have.
Though, I personally think your work in an iPad app is absolutely astounding! I honestly would not have guessed that was the tool you were using, at all!  Working in a program like that is so time consuming and takes an incredible amount of patience, so props to you for that!

JD-Illustrates In reply to Galaxynite [2016-03-21 20:10:00 +0000 UTC]

Nah, I'm not gonna die. Then I wouldn't be able to do this with you again! Haha!

Yeah, Luna comes off a pretty sassy, and she really is. (I don't know if you read her bio or not...?) However, she also hides a very insecure and scared side. She knows that if she takes off her Power Inhibitors she'll become a monster, and that both scares and entices her. The ultimate freedom at the ultimate price: her sanity. Who KNOWS who she might kill without any moral restraints...

Actually, I've been staring at this pic almost nonstop (and yes, your revisions are perfect!), but I just can't really figure out the process in which you did some of this. I understand that many artists don't want to share their processes, so I would completely understand and respect a "no." But maybe if you have time and if you're willing, is there any way that you could make some sort of breakdown? Like, show the lineart then the base colors then the final? I completely understand if you don't want to and I can probably figure it out by myself, but I figured that I would ask. 😊

Oh, they're having a sale for Clip Studio Paint! I'd have to ask my dad and even then, I'd have to work it off... but if you really think that it's worth it, I could probably go for it. Those tablets are pretty expensive though. That would be MORE working it off. 😬 And I'm not sure about jumping from a completely LED display to having to stare UPWARDS while I draw. Do you get used to it?

And there's also the problem that I wouldn't be able to draw on the go, since I don't have a laptop and this is enough money out of my wallet as it is.

(By the way, you said 7 years? I've only been drawing for three or four and I'm 15 now. I looked real quick and it is not stated on your page, so I guess you may not want people to know, but how old are you?)

Galaxynite In reply to JD-Illustrates [2016-03-23 04:28:25 +0000 UTC]

Haha, that's true! XD  Good!

I read some of her bio, yea! That's definitely where I got the sassy vibe from xD  I honestly find that sassy characters are just the best, haha!
Oh boy, that sounds intense! XD Perhaps it's just best that those rings stay on then xDD

Phew, haha! I'm super glad that the fixes are good!
And while I don't have a good way to use this particular picture as an example, because I shade on the same layer as my base colors and would thus have to essentially color over the shading, I do have a basic rundown tutorial-thing of how I color!  Here you go:
Feel free to ask whatever if you have any questions regarding this, but this is the basics of how I do it haha!  It's really not that special, honestly, but I hope it helps!

Haha, yea! If you think you really want to take that step, by all means, I personally think it's a great investment!  A tip though, they don't make it incredibly obvious sometimes, but make sure to buy the correct version corresponding to your operating system! When I was purchasing it, I almost bought the windows version on accident instead of the mac version.  That would have been severely disappointing, haha!
And yea, going from an iPad to a full on computer and tablet would definitely take adjusting.  It takes a little while to learn the hand-eye coordination required to be able to draw without having to look at your hands.  It really helps in that transition to have the tablet set so that each corner of the tablet corresponds to one corner of the computer screen.  It makes it easier to keep track of your mouse and learn to guide it where you want it without having to look. And I would suggest that if you get one, try and use for other things than just drawing at first too.  It really speeds up the process to try using it as a mouse and just adjusting to it! Once you get the hang of it though, it's typically a pretty smooth transition and doesn't take very long!

Again, I still think your art quality is very nice as it is, so for mobile purposes, I don't see why you couldn't continue to hone your skills there, too! I personally think they're too impressive to just drop them entirely!

(I would prefer to keep that information to myself, but yea haha! Really though, that's drawing at least something, no matter how small, almost every single day for 7 years.  It's crazy to think about in that amount, but it's even crazier thinking about how much improvement has been had since then 3-4 years is still a long time, too, and it definitely shows through your work! )
