I wish I could see more of this beautiful design; different angles.

It is a beautiful ship and an amazing design. Reminds me of the Ambassador-Class which is uniquely beautiful herself. I'd love to sim this as the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-F Β but he has it listed here as the G.Β

The G! I love how you do the details, do you do commissions of such because I was thinking of one of my old art ships in your detail.

I love your vectorwork to death, but do you ever get the feeling that you're doing to much Sovereign2.0ing with some of your ship designs? I just think new Enterprises warrant much more originality.

Well, to be honest, I only see the layout to be similar to the Sov. The point and motivation behind this ship was to bring it back to what I love about the constitution class refit, but in a 25th century setting. I'm still tweaking the ship as I go along, worst case scenario, i make it a JJverse Sovereign. That might work better eh?

I definitely think there are other routes to go on that can be distinctly you and be extremely unique. Nearly every Enterprise has thrown in new aesthetics to the equation to distinguish it from any previous starship. (The exceptions, which are the B and C, have out-of-universe reasons for lacking originality. The B was always intended to be an Excelsior, and the C was designed as an in-between of an Excelsior and Galaxy.)

Right now, this ship gives off a definite JJSov vibe. It's absolutely beautiful, but beauty is not the only qualifier for what makes an Enterprise so.

I believe there are definetly other routes that can be taken, but that will take away the design from being named Enterprise. Like instance the Odyssey Enterprise-F, that was one ship that I feel was a cool design but not worthy of the name...

Every Enterprise has added elements that were radical and required time to get used to. Some you fall in love with on first glance, others not so much. Each one has retained elements of the prior, but then kicked convention in the butt. Small case study:

Start with TOS. Very simple geometry, flying saucer attached to rocket engines with sticks holding it together.
TMP. Art deco lines, new functional look (visible technology instead of porcelain blank slate), overall angular feel trumping TOS's simple geometry.
TNG. Dramatically upscaled, great forward motion feel, each part is streamlined into the next, no harsh divisions, substantial neck, pylons and nacelles extremely unique in comparison to past ships.
SOV. Detail overload to the max. Intense paneling, dark armored sections, no neck whatsoever, bristling with technology hardpoints, hot-rod-esque streamlining, super-swept pylons, super-greebly undersaucer.

The shift in design aesthetic between D and E is very apparent, but both have been well received. To put it in perspective, I would say the Sovereign is not at all a Galaxy 2.0, but a different beast altogether. This Renown-class definitely gives a Sov2.0 feel.

ok so how would u do it differently? add 4 nacelles and a triangular saucer? What I was trying to get at was to create a logical extension and evolution to the Sov. There are days i really hate fans that nick pick every single detail on a Trek ship, reminds me of why is stopped doing this for the last year....

Galen, this ship is beautiful the way it looks, I'd love to run her as the Enterprise-F. Β She has graceful lines that remind me of the Ambassador Class.

I'm not here to nitpick, that's not my intention. For all intents and purposes, the ship is absolutely beautiful. I just believe that there is a design element somewhere on this ship that can be made more radical, more out-there, to make her really stand out from the pack. Perhaps something dramatically different with the pylons would do the trick.

na it's cool man, looking at this ship makes me feel like you know enough about trek to not mess it up.
and even if you might happen to mess it up, I don't think you will post it, because this ship must be perfect or not at all...
I don't know if you understand my train of thought, basically I have more faith in you then JJ.

FarShot In reply to ACXtreme [2013-05-06 23:17:54 +0000 UTC]

I don't know what makes the JJPrise un-Trek-ish. It has bussard collectors with visible intakes and a blue-purple hue more appropriate to hydrogen than red, visible weapons points that don't exist on the TOS Enterprise, impulse engines, a logical reason for the bridge to sit exposed on the top of the ship (the window)...

Heck, it has very '60s curves on it too. Streamlined warp nacelles, the forward power of the secondary hull... take a look at some old cars from that decade and you'll see the similarities.

IMO, it's definitely one of the most functional and distinctly aesthetic designs in Trekdom.

ThePhilosopher4 In reply to FarShot [2013-05-07 13:24:23 +0000 UTC]

But the collectors collect more than just hydrogen. Also as Mr. Tovok (I probably spelled his name wrong)"We are building a starship Not a Hot Rod." also it looks like an APPLE store in space.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FarShot In reply to ThePhilosopher4 [2013-05-07 16:09:06 +0000 UTC]

Hydrogen has always been the primary gas collected. It's what powers the fusion reactors onboard the ship.

Tuvok may have said that, but if you look at the Delta Flyer, it still looks like a hotrod.

As for the Apple store thing, ever see 2001: A Space Odyssey? They had a white interior. TOS had a white interior. Surely Apple hasn't trademarked painting things white, have they?

ThePhilosopher4 In reply to FarShot [2013-05-07 16:14:16 +0000 UTC]

Also canonically the collectors are red so they should be red not blue.
