Description
This is my most favorite ice age mammal ever.
The Woolly Mammoth, the ancestor of the elephant. These creatures were found all over Alaska and Siberia, they traveled through land bridges to warmer places during the last ice age 30,000 years ago. They travel in groups led by a female matriarch, they can eat grass, shrubs and spruce leafs and bark to supplement their diet along the way, and when they get to warmer places, they shed their long woolly fur to replace it with short woolly fur. But they are hunted to extinction by Neandertals and Humans, and the last mammoths died out when their favorite shrub fields disappeared.
Fun fact: Did you know today in the present, we are trying to revive mammoths back from extinction? That is so cool.
This version of the Woolly Mammoth belongs to Walking With Beasts, BBC Studios
