Description A quick drawing for the Spin Off of the Main Historically Wrong Sketch Project - Medieval Revisited with the aim to (anachronistically) portrays, not women, but MEN in armors, fueled with WARRGH!

Listen to this for an enlightening experience: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpUYjp… - Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit

Well, Most of my galleries are populated with Women Warriors, so as some of you have suggested, perhaps it is time to bring the balance of gender into my works.

Women in armor that fights in battle? That's interesting, but War has been the playground of men since the dawn of time. Nothing beats the feeling of having Raw Rage of Masculinity amidst the clash of steel and blood splattering from cracked skulls. Romantic depiction of Chivalry? Pffth, that's rubbish. Love should be dedicated to your sword and horse, and the only nice things about battle is the smell your enemy...they smell better when dead.

This is actually something that's pretty nice to do. If i have to rethink as to how Armor would looked on Women Warriors, Project WARRGH allows me to just simply sketch and do it. No need to think about this and that, the man is there and he needs that armor and weapons, which is made easier because there's plenty of references too!

I realize that there are many here in DA that draw historical warriors, from the most epic to the most conceptual, and they would have been more familiar with the attires and the histories behind it. So i'm really looking forward to learn a lot from them

What happen when they are wixed with the women warrios of the Historically Wrong Sketch series? Who knows, maybe there's romance, rivalries, or perhaps butchery....it all depends i guess

Β Something about the lack of pupils in the eyes of the man-at-arms on the right makes me think 'Wight' which makes me suspect that I may have been paying a little too much attention to Fantasy Vs History in my recent reading!Β

Sounds fun though I don't mind seeing only women just because they're hard to find elsewhere( that is not your gallery haha). I just have a question, why cover the faces of these men? Although technically men and women would be indistinguishable if they were armoured head to toe, why this design choice?Β

These guys look great! I think you really managed to get a sense of a different type of anatomy then in the case of the female warriors, despite the very heavy, protective clothing. Which is great! I especially like the Varagnian with his Byzantine-style armour and the Norman knight. Looking forward to seeing some more!

Appreciate the compliment akitku! I will certainly include more of the byzantine of the series, a combination of a powerful emperor and a ruthless empress can be quite interesting

Oh gosh, I didn't realize they were men for a second there. I assumed they were just very heavily armored women. DX

Still, its nice to see some manliness inserted into the series.

*silently whispers: The great helmet is a tad too small, imo*

I like the grim atmosphere. I really like it. Screw knightly rules and whatnot. Do or die. And that aside, :CapturedJoe:, the Teutonic Order disbanded early to mid 15th century, and the landsknecht, or rather, their precursors, the Swiss pikemen, already existed end 15th century (kicking Burgundy's ass mainly)

YEah, you are correct, the helmet does look small (needs more study on this one)

You are defientely right, there's going to be a lot of brute force and maybe blood bath included in the series, after all, Its WAR!

sort of a spinoff from Sopra La Lucrezia where she's featured

Aaaah, a bloodthirsty Woman-Ritterbruder from the Knights' Teutonic. The very embodiment of "convert or die" in some of the most elaborately crafted armor of the era. Mad, bad, and dangerous to know.

I always love your work in the "Historically Wrong" series~ Great to see another piece in the collection.

PhotoKrow42 In reply to Gambargin [2014-03-16 17:38:33 +0000 UTC]

OH WAIT THAT RITTERBRUDER'S A GUY HERP-DE-DERP!

I automatically assumed it was a woman just because you're the one drawing it, and your woman-warriors always look realistic and badass. That coupled with the all-too-often-overlooked fact that a fully-armored man is visually indistinguishable from a fully-armored woman, and you could understand my confusion.

Then again it might even be an oversight on my part as to use a term like "Woman-Ritterbruder" as the latter half of that term is basically some Medieval Gothic/Germanic term for "brother." So a female equivalent would be a Ritter-sister???

Still a gorgeous piece though, as always~

Out of curiosity, would they have to be Historical, or could they be fictional? I know several Guy Gavriel Kay characters that I think you would do an absolutely breathtaking job with.

Trollshand In reply to Gambargin [2014-03-15 20:10:48 +0000 UTC]

Yes, most certainly! I've been in Hospital for a few days, but let me go and get my books. I pretty much think you could do a breathtaking job of bringing any of them to life. I'll find the ones I think you can do the most justice for. Did you need the character descriptions as well at the books titles, or pages or any specific references?Β

Exactly! I've been drawing too many women lately that i thought maybe i should practice on drawing men. The hardest thing about it would be the muscle anatomy, but if the characters are depicted in thick clothing/armor, then that makes life a lot simpler
