Except if she's a Spirit, why would Nintendo up her role when she's already being represented in World of Light?

I'm more worried about how many other fans might take it. Those Waluigi protesters alone did not make me feel comfortable. I mean, on YouTube if I mention the possibilities of why she wouldn't make DLC, everyone's like "Spirits don't de-confirm characters". Well, I think they do, even if it does dwindle down the possibilities of who Nintendo may pick.
Perhaps Nintendo felt that they weren't ready to have Shantae be fully playable for Smash Bros.

I don't think Spirits de-confirm characters, but I do agree on the fans behavior. Some of them can be unpredictable at times. The problem with the Smash community is the fan base. It's a mix of every fan base that's out there.

And that problem could factor into why fan favorites may not be handpicked by Nintendo.

Very true. Nintendo only going to pick what make financial sense to them.

But with what the fans already did - complaining about Waluigi, ignoring Sakurai's cautionary message of not expecting many newcomers, seeing Ultimate as only a means to get their favorite fighters in, missing the gist being to bring every previous fighter back, and possibility taking advantage of Nintendo and Sakurai - it's probably for the best.
Throwing in Piranha Plant was, in a figurative sense, giving the fans EXACTLY what they asked for.

LOL Yes it was. I laugh so hard when I saw the Piranha Plant for the first time . As fans we did went overboard. Sakurai was like "that's it I'm done, here's a Plant for all of you. Nintendo take it from here, I'm out".

I find Piranha Plant hilarious and the best reaction I saw on YouTube was Black Nerd's reaction. The guy was in stitches from laughing so hard at the absurdity.

The only real thing I think can guarantee Shantae a spot as a DLC fighter is for business/marketing/profit reasons, that is, if Nintendo anticipates making their company and WayForward a lot of money. They're not exactly competing companies and I have a hunch that WayForward is making Shantae games not just for money, but for fan service. In 1/2 Genie Hero, Jammies Mode alone was made as fan service and also a way of saying thanks to not just the backers, but all the fans as well.

Thanks, but I don't see her making it this time. While the Shantae series do seem marketable, on a logic note, it doesn't seem likely that Nintendo would make a Spirit a fully playable character, especially given that Shantae has a role in her cameo appearance in World of Light, a role that fully represents her character.

Indeed, I feel the same way. A part of me still have hope, but logic I don't see Nintendo add her either. They already gave her a role into the story. Plus Nintendo Going to pick Character from upcoming games.

One thing we don't know is if it means they've picked any third-party characters, that is if any of the staffers have gone through any negotiation processes. Although, Tetra/Toon Zelda and Dixie Kong, originally intended for Brawl, would probably make a good chunk of fans happy...

Indeed. Well Hopefully we get to know at least one of the DLC Character before the game come out. Like showing one of them on the video game awards. But I don't think Nintendo take the video game awards seriously.

I don't think any of the DLC fighters will take that short a time to even showcase. I imagine that Piranha Plant is still in the tweaking phases and maybe they're working on its Classic Mode or its compatibility. But perhaps when each one reaches the same phase as Piranha Plant is at, maybe then they'll at least showcase a sneak preview. But keep in mind, Piranha Plant doesn't even have a solid release date yet. I think Nintendo would want to at least have a solid release date for any of their DLC fighters before showing off what they have so far.

It's okay. If there's any DLC fighter that would be shown off at a Game Awards, it may be Piranha Plant.
