Description
The Everfree Forest, a place of mystery and daring adventure for only the bravest souls where the laws of nature did not follow any magical pony rules. However, the forest is also a playground for some ponies, including a young unicorn colt and a zebra filly who venture into the unknown frequently to supply ingredients for their mentor the zebra Zecora. Every day brings a new challenge for them to face, and today Zecora asked her pupils to once again gather some berries for her latest potion lesson. With unbounded eagerness, the unicorn colt and zebra filly raced into the depths of the forest on their quest.

"Ugh this is terrible, possibly the WORST adventure ever!" the zebra filly Kiara cried with dramatic movements.

"We're just out finding berries" the unicorn huffed, scanning the bushes for their target fruit.

"But c'mon Pine! I was hoping this would be at least A LITTLE dangerous! When Zecora said they were 'Manticore Berries", I thought we'd actually run into a manticore!"

The unicorn snorted. "They are called Manticore Berries because they are the only fruit manticores eat and are red like their manes."

"Pfft whatever." Kiara huffed back to Pine as they continued walking down the forest path.

Time passed slowly, and both Pine and Kiara grew bored; however, neither wanted to disappoint Zecora, and so moved along, turning over every bush impatiently. After what finally seemed like the whole morning went by, Pine and Kiara stopped in their tracks.

"Uhhh Kiara, does that tree look familiar?" Pine asked as he looked around.

"Yea, it kinda looks like the same freakishly knobby tree we passed a while back. Why?"

"Ugh because now I know we have been walking in circles! No wonder we haven't found any of these berries yet!" Pine huffed, stomping his hooves in the dirt.

"WHAT?! UGH!" Kiara moaned loudly as she sat down dramatically. Both ponies huffed and puffed, annoyed that they SOMEHOW just spent all this time wandering in circles.

"Well I don't know how this happened, but let's try a different path then." Pine suggested as he turned and followed a different path.

"Yea alright, fine." Kiara huffed as she got up from the ground. Then a light went off in her head, and the zebra filly smirked.

"Hey Pine, why don't we make this a little more interesting?"

"How?" Pine asked curiously but cautiously.

"Why don't we make a bet? Let's split up, and whoever finds these berries first wins my secret stash of Fluffer Marshmallows?"

Pine paused, thinking about the bet. After a brief pause, Pine nodded. "Alright! Let's do it!"

With that, both ponies went opposite paths on the hunt for the Manticore Berries.

Another eternity passed, and it seemed Pine was close to giving up on this dare from bored exhaustion. However, luck was on his side and after what seemed like a fruitless adventure actually turned into some success: Pine found the berries! With a chuckle he began floating some berries into his bag, hoping to win this dare and the tasty marshmallows. As he picked the berries, Pine suddenly heard a rustle from the bushes behind him. Pine cautiously turned around to suddenly see a blur of white with black stripes leap from the bush and tackle him, followed by laughter.

"Ha! Gotcha!" Kiara shouted with giggles.

"Wait what?!" Pine exclaimed.

"I pinned ya! I knew you would eventually find those berries, so I followed you until now, and then BAM!" Kiara giggled again with a smile. However, Pine was stunned in silence. At first he was a little annoyed at Kiara; however, he could not get over this small but deep feeling he could not pin: attraction? affection? pride? Yes, Pine knew his friend loved surprising him with light punches or jump scares, and this pin was just what the zebra filly did, but this situation seemed different. Maybe it was the way the forest light hit Kiara, or maybe it was the way Kiara giggled in victory. Whatever the feeling, Pine was stunned and the world seemed to pause. With a celebratory snort, Kiara finally let Pine go and began plucking berries into her own bag.

"C'mon slow poke! These berries aren't going to pick themselves!" Kiara exclaimed. Pine remained on the ground for a few more seconds before wrestling himself upright and composing himself. He still could not stop looking at Kiara with wide eyes.

"Maybe these berries will attract a Manticore!" Kiara exclaimed after stuffing her bag with berries. She then turned to Pine with a soft smirk and chuckle. "I guess since you found these berries first, you get the marshmallows." Kiara said softly, smiling at the confused look on Pine's face. Then, with barely a warning, Kiara exclaimed "buuuuut not if I beat you home first!", then dashed onto the forest path to Zecora's hut. Laughing, Pine raced after Kiara, hoping to make it back to his deserved marshmallow prize."

This here is my entry for 's KOP shipping contest . Here we have probably my favorite ship, Kiara and Pinetree . I just find these two adorable!
