Description IT IS DOOONE!!!!! I´m so happy and proud, its just great!

Here the finished tribute to Ghiblis "Spirited Away" Definately one of the most intricate sculpts I´ve done yet

Haku is approx. 14cm long and detailed handsculpted by me from flexible polymerclay. He´s handpainted with Citadel-Colors.
As in the movie he´s "chased" by several paperflyers I assembled on additional dangling chains, parallel to the mainnecklace.

The necklace is composed of several metal beads glassbeads in seafoam, green, moonstone white and turquoise.
On the back I added a dangling charm with moonstone like opalescent scales, like the one he looses in the transformation scene

What brand of clay do you use? Also, how do you get your pieces to stay (like, not break if moved wrong?) The feet are so small, when I tried, they just broke off. I love your so much!

Ganjamira In reply to BeppasCreations [2015-05-31 21:48:33 +0000 UTC]

For Haku I used FIMOsoft polymerclay in dolphin grey That was a long learning process with alot of broken pieces, believe me! I wondered the same thing in my first year of sculpting, then I started experimenting on baking the clay at lower temperatures anmd different times - if you bake it at only 100°Cesius (ventilated air oven, not bake or grill function!) for 20minutes instead of 30min the clay gets hard but stays quiet flexible.
On Haku you can bend the legs up to 30° without any problem and me and his new owner dropped him several times without damages
I guess it differs slightly from oven to oven and I recognized that different colours from the same brand of clay differ in their behavior. Metallic colors stay alot more flexible, while red, yellow and orange break easier, even when baked shorter. Brown, back and grey FIMOsoft stays very flexible too, same for all effect-colors from PREMO and FIMO.
Hope this helps you a bit

Holy cow! I always have used Sculpey III, but I saw a YouTube video and the lady seriously bent her charm to a 90 degree angle and it was fine.  My charms can't go past 10 degrees with out snapping. So recently, I bought FIMOsoft and got rid of all my old Sculpey III. I figure I can't sell something that could break! (That's actually the reason why I haven't posted in a while.) Do you have any other tips with FIMOsoft? Also, does the thickness matter when baking?

Ganjamira In reply to BeppasCreations [2015-05-31 22:10:27 +0000 UTC]

^^ I never used SculpeyIII before, but I used Sculpey-living Doll and Sculpey-Premo. But mostly FIMO, its cheaper here in europe
90degrees are impressive!!!! I only had a fiew pieces that flexible, when I remember right it was "icecrystal"-color from FIMOsoft-effect, baked only 18min.
As said, some colors are more brittle. Those are the clays that dry out fst too, yellow is the worst. If you buy yellow use it as soon you can, I have about 5 halfused rockhard blocks here
Mhhhh, thin parts bake through much faster and get very hard quiet fast. If you craft something like this
and all thin parts shall stay flexible, only bake it 15min at 100°Celsius and let it cool down in the openend oven. The colors used in this one are "jade green" from FIMOeffect and "pearlescent green" from PREMO, both stay quiet flexible if not baked to long.
If you want to sculpt big flat pieces, like this
be sure to make it about 6-8mm thick, or it can break down in the middle. (again, metallic and effect colours from FIMO stay alot more flexible, so you can use those colors to make flat big pieces^^)

Any more specific questions

Thank you so much!!!  I'm actually going to test some stuff out today, so hopefully it'll work for me! I find it interesting that FIMO is the cheapest brand of clay by you. By me, (I'm near Chicago in America)  it is the most expensive brand. (Sculpey III is the cheapest, which is why I used it. ). As for more questions, two things!  First, how do you bake it when you have a different material with it, like here: ganjamira.deviantart.com/art/V…
Second, do you have just simple rules of FIMO? Sculpey III is so different! Thank you so much again, you're so sweet!

Ganjamira In reply to BeppasCreations [2015-06-01 20:28:20 +0000 UTC]

I hope so too!
Its cheaper here because its manufactured in germany^^ All Sculpey-clays are imported from the US, so we´ve to pay more...

Thats a toughy - you sculpt directly onto the EMPTY glassflask and bake it standing upside down on its neck/opening, so the clay don´t get flat or burned. You can include almost all gemstones, glass and wood. When the vial is baked you can fill in whatever you like, using stones, glitter, or resin.

Mhhh, for that I would need to know how Sculpey works out...I´ll definately buy a pack for testing next time I order clay, maybe I can think of some usefull tipps then^^
In general:
-Always buy FIMOsoft, classic is hard as a rock and drie out rapidly!
-Effect colors (trancelucents, crystal, metallic) stay alot more flexible after baking than other colors.
- Effect colors (jade - ruby - icecrystal - agate) will change colours immensly if baked to long!!!
-Warm FIMO is far easier to form out, with colder clay you can work very precisely
mhhhhhhh can´t think of something here xD

Thank you so much!  I can't wait to get to work! Also, you can get Sculpey III if you really want to, but it is very brittle. The only positive of it is that it is very soft in comparison to FIMO. Also, be careful with red Sculpey, the pigments stain you hands and it is very hard to get off! Thanks again!
