You can create an .obj file that is more flattened instead of using the planetshape from Terragen Both the planet and the moon in my piece @ [link] are .obj files ..

That would work if I was using an image map for the planet texture. However, in my picture it is actual procedural clouds on the planet which couldn't be applied to an flattened sphere object.

This is very nice, I'm interested in knowing how you did the rings in terragen.

The rings are pretty simple. It is just a plane object with an image map applied for each color and an opacity mask which gives the visible gaps. Since this ring didn't produce a realistic shadow I created a series of disc objects using data from wikipedia that aren't visible to the camera, but still casts shadows onto the clouds. I'm probably going to post an example tgd on the planetside forums that shows what is happening better than words can.

Thanks for the explanation. If you post the tgd can you send me the link?

Here is the link to the TGD for the image. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I forgot about it for a while.

Awesome work! A bit simplistic in design but that just draws your attention more to the picture.

True. Unfortunately I don't think terragen has a way of altering the basic planet shape to anything but a sphere. If I could figure it out a redo would definitely be in order.
