Charizard vs Rathalos

Charizard info:

Height: 5 foot 7 (both forms)

Weight: 199lbs (base form) 243lbs (Mega Charizard X)

Weapons: Tooth and Claw, Wide Move pool

Strengths: As the mascot of Red/FireRed version Charizard is one of the most famous and beloved Pokémon of the entire series, High Special Attack, High Speed, Reasonable Attack, Possesses two Mega Forms (Only X will be present in this battle), Mega Forms boost all stats.

Weaknesses: Weak to Water/Electric/Rock Type attacks, Weakn to Dragon and Fairy Type attacks in Mega Charizard X form.

Rathalos info:

Height: 12 feet

Length: 30 feet

Weight: 2 tons

Weapons: Tooth and Claw, Fire, Poison Barbed Tail

Strengths: Easily one of the top aerial predators of the Monster Hunter universe and was the first mascot of the game, Is powerful enough to easily take on other large Monsters and carry off full grown Aptonoths, Breathes Fire, Has Poisonous Claws and a Poison Spiked Tail.

Weaknesses: Weak to Ice, Water, Dragon and Thunder element attacks.

Battle begin!

“Land here Charizard” Red commanded to which his Starter shot down to the ground landing with a crash, dust kicking up as the Fire Lizards feet touched down carving into the dirt as he landed. Upon touching down Red hopped off Charizards back glancing around to try and get his bearings “where do you think we are? This doesn’t look like Kanto” he commented before noticing the Kelbi’s running around “what are those? Deerlings? We must be in Unova”.

As Red pulled out his Pokedex to inspect the Deer-like Creatures that pranced around the meadow he and Charizard had landed in his Starter suddenly took notice of a large shadow that dart across the ground drawing his attention to the skies. Realizing that whatever was in the air wasn’t friendly and was making a turn to aim straight towards them Charizard quickly grabbed Red taking off again just as the Rathalos crashed down where the Trainer had been standing mere seconds beforehand.

Landing again Charizard kept his hold on Red ready to take off again if need be, his eyes glued to the large Dragon like Creature that had landed and whilst he had no idea what it was he knew one thing, it wasn’t a Pokémon.

Hissing as it righted itself the Rathalos turned its attention to the two new beings that had trespassed on its territory, a low hiss emanating from its throat as it hunched its haunches and spread its wings threateningly in a single warning for them to get out. Not one to be threatened however Charizard returned the same threat, flaring his wings and snorting flames as he set Red to a side and stood in front of him growling at the Wyvern.

As Charizard stood his ground the Rathalos threw its head back with a thunderous bellow of rage, shaking the ground around it making Red stumble whilst Charizard just roared back “by Arceus what is that?!” the Trainer gasped taking a few steps back whilst Charizard took one forward ready to protect his Trainer at all costs.

Hissing louder as Charizard challenged it further the Rathalos inhaled deeply before spitting a fireball straight at the Pokémon and his Trainer, Charizard immediately leaping into action hopping back to get closer to Red before holding a wing out to shield them both, the fireball crashing against his wing clouding them in jet black smoke.

Upon the smoking clearing Charizard had to react quickly as the Rathalos came barrelling towards them, the Fire Starter just managing to raise his arms to grab hold of the Wyvern’s jaws preventing them from clamping down on him.

As his Pokémon held the Monster back Red could only watch in horror as the monstrosity tried to outright devour Charizard, the Fire Types arms straining as they kept the Rathalos jaws apart whilst he glared back at his Trainer, his eyes screaming one thing.

Orders now!

Quickly focusing Red jumped back to get to a safe distance before giving Charizard his first order “Mega Punch!” he commanded to which Charizard quickly released the Rathalos’s bottom jaw, his left arm straining harder against its top jaw as it reeled his right fist back before slugging the Wyvern full force in the top bridge of its mouth.

Screeching as the blow left a heavy dent in the bridge of its mouth the Rathalos reeled back to which Charizard took to the air, slugging the Wyvern again across the jaw with another Mega Punch making its head snap to a side. “Good now Fire Blast!” Red commanded prompting Charizard to inhale deeply before spitting a human shaped blast of Flame from his maw straight at the Wyvern point blank.

Unfortunately, the Rathalos had the same resistance to Fire as Charizard had easily brushing off the blast swinging its massive tail around to strike the Pokémon sending him flying into a nearby rock formation. Roaring with pain as he slammed against the rocks Charizards eyes went wide as the Rathalos followed slamming a huge Talon-ed foot against his body pinning him to the rocks.

“Charizard!” Red cried out as the Pokémon struggled against the Wyvern’s hold “Slash attack now!”.

Pulling an arm free from under the Rathalos’s foot Charizard extended his claws and raked them deep along the softer flesh lining the Wyvern’s heel, drawing blood causing the Rathalos to screech and retreat freeing the Pokémon from its hold. “Now use Flamethrower!” Red commanded to which Charizard billowed a strong stream of Flame against the Rathalos’s softer underside, still not causing major wounds but hurting it more than when he attacked its scales.

Retreating further to avoid the Flames the Rathalos took to the skies to which Charizard took off after it, both Dragon’s shooting Fire at each other as they circled each other. “Use Swift!” Red commanded prompting Charizard to spit homing Star shaped energy from his mouth, the attack shooting through into Rathalos’s scales drawing blood as they carved across it, some even cutting into the membrane of its wings making it shriek with pain again.

As its wings were torn the Rathalos suddenly flared them, stopping mid-air causing Charizard to crash into the spikes on its back as the Pokémon couldn’t stop in time. The spikes tearing into his thick skin drawing blood as Charizard quickly crumpled falling off the Wyvern’s back towards the ground below. As the Pokémon fell the Rathalos swooped down to follow him, latching its jaws around his tail using it to drag him through the air as the Pokémon struggled in its grip.

With Charizard in its grasp the Rathalos landed again proceeding to whip the Fire Type around before slamming him against the ground repeatedly, kicking up dust clouds as each blow left Charizard battered and dazed, the Pokémon desperately clawing at the Wyvern’s face before it threw him aside sending him into another rock formation which crumbled on top of him burying him under dozens of rocks.

“Charizard!” Red called out in horror as his Starter was buried under tons of rock, his cry immediately attracting the Rathalos’s attention making him freeze. The Trainer started to shake as the Rathalos turned to face him, its golden eyes narrowing on him before it began to stalk towards him.

As the Rathalos approached Red noticed the rocks shifting slightly from where Charizard was buried giving him slight hope that his Pokémon still loved “please let this work” he breathed under his breath bringing up his Mega Ring and pressing the button as the Wyvern drew closer.

Under the rubble Charizards eyes snapped open upon his Charizardite X Mega Stone activation, his body erupting in a bright light as the rocks surrounded him blasted away stopping the Rathalos in its tracks. As the Wyvern turned around to investigate the light and noise it found Charizard rising from the rubble it had been buried under, his skin now a jet black and blue compared to its old orange and yellow with spines jutting out from the front and back of his shoulders, his wings now shorter with a more ragged look to them and his horns longer and sharper with a blue tint to the ends and to top it all off two streams of constant blue flame billowed from the sides of his mouth.

Letting out a ferocious bellow Charizard acted without command, rushing towards the Rathalos winding up another Mega Punch striking the Wyvern straight in the snout before it could react, his punch packing far more power now filling the air with the sound of breaking teeth and fracturing bone as the punch broke the Wyvern’s top jaw.

Shrieking in pain as its head snapped back the Rathalos spat a Fireball quickly at Charizard but thanks to his now half Dragon Typing his resistance to Fire had only increased, the Pokémon powering through the attack to deliver another Mega Punch straight to the Wyvern’s ribs breaking several of them as he sent the Rathalos flying back into the nearby cliff face.

Landing hard the Wyvern quickly whipped its Spiked tail at Charizard catching the Pokémon off guard as it made another advance, the Spikes digging in deep but not deep enough to cause mortal wounds simply knocking the Pokémon to the ground allowing it to rise to its feet again. Rising before Charizard the Rathalos brought a foot down on the Fire/Dragon Type digging its poisonous Talons into his skin making the Pokémon roar with pain again. “Fight it off Charizard!” Red commanded beginning to worry about his Starter again only to quickly breathe a sigh of relief as Charizard complied, grabbing hold of the Rathalos’s foot and with a sharp twist broke one of its toes clean off causing blood to spray everywhere as the Wyvern recoiled roaring in agony.

With the Rathalos now off him Charizard rose to his feet finding the Wyvern now starting to limp away, the Monster battered and bleeding and obviously wanting nothing more to do with the fight but Charizard wasn’t going to let it go so easily, it had attacked them and tried to kill his Trainer, nothing got away after trying that.

Rushing forward Charizard grabbed hold of the Rathalos’s tail, using his now enhanced strength to drag the Wyvern back knocking it off its feet making it hit the dirt hard. As the Wyvern roared and struggled Charizard bit and clawed at its tail until the clubbed end of the Rathalos’s tail came straight off causing more blood to stain the floor.

Overcome with the primal rage and power that came with Mega Evolution Charizard went further, climbing onto the Wyvern’s back and grabbing hold of its wings, ripping and tearing at them until with a sicking snapping sound he tore both wings from the Monsters shoulders crippling it.

In agony and losing blood fast the Rathalos could do nothing as Charizard grabbed its head, dragging it back and prising its jaws open before unleashing a stream of Flame straight down its gullet, the Monster may have been Fire proof on the outside but not so much on the inside as the Beasts struggles ended as quickly as they begun.

Releasing the Rathalos’s head Charizard threw his own back unleashing a roar and a stream of Flame into the air beating his wings in victory before reverting to his original form. Staring in shock at his Pokémon Red quickly snapped out of it running up to hop onto Charizards back “let’s get out of here buddy, I don’t know what this place is but I don’t ever want to come back here again” he stated to which Charizard eagerly agreed spreading his wings and taking off leaving the ruined Rathalos corpse behind.

Winner: Charizard

Well, there’s my second Pokémon vs Monster Hunter match up and like before, spoilers, Pokémon takes it.

Whilst Rathalos had the sheer size and power advantage over Charizard in his base form the power balance quickly flips as soon as Mega Evolution is brought into the equation and whilst Rathalos shares Charizards resistance to Fire it simply doesn’t have a wide enough move set outside of Fire to match Charizards.
