hmm... I don't think it's an anime that will please everyone. I mean it has a really simple plot: a group of samurai team up to defend a village from bandits, and it doesn't have all the epic bling and blang some anime have. I think you really need to like, pay close attention to realize how absolutely amazing and heart-breaking the relations between the characters are, because that's sort of the whole point of the story (it's also based on one of the most well-known Japanese classics, Seven Samurai). Overall it has a good pacing, good animation, a good story-telling. The beginning is considered by some as slow, but I didn't think so. It's sort of also because I watched it with a friend and the pleasure was double and we just held on to each other each time something absolutely dramatic was happening and we got into it REALLY fast that way. There's a lot of beauty and sadness in the concept of a group of men trying to regain their honor as Samurai in an era where human warriors are seen as so much less pure and less authentic than wired killing machines. And the ending just leaves you crying forever. ;w;
