Description
The school was bustling, the courtyard full of first years and their parents, saying goodbye to their 'oh so beloved darlings' before they started their time at this shithole. If they didn't want them to leave they shouldn't have sent them to boarding school in the first place. Stupid humans. Well it wasn't my job here to judge them, I scanned the crowds trying to find him, I knew he was there but there was just so many bloody kids and so many confusing thoughts that I couldn't pin point him at all

"Any luck?" I heard Ellette say behind me, I looked over at the small blonde girl and shook my head, the worry was already plastered across her face

"We need to find him soon before THEY find him, its…" she trailed off when she noticed the look on my face, I knew all this already

"Elle, go take over looking on the ground, I need to speak with Ridley" a deep, commanding voice said a few feet to my left. Ellette nodded and ran off down the corridor towards the large wooden staircase that backed onto the courtyard, I would have wished her good luck but it was too funny watching her petit figure try to get through the crowds, let alone see over people's heads.

"What's wrong? You seem really off today" he said again, I didn't need to look at him to know who it was, no one except Ellette and him would have noticed I was up on the heads balcony. After a few long seconds I ripped my eyes off the now thinned crowd and looked at the older boy, Ruhr was his name, he looked only about a year older than me but he really was a lot older

"Ridley?" he asked pushing his brown fringe out his face, why didn't he just cut it off it annoyed me. If he didn't cut it off ones day I would while he was sleeping, yeah! I'd just get a pair of scissors and cut it off, it wouldn't be that hard. Well… he would probably kill me afterwards… scratch that he WOULD kill me afterwards. Oh well, if he did he would just have to deal with Dixie, who would freak out and call the police or something stupid like that. Heh.

"RIDLEY!" he snapped his fingers in front of my face pissed off with me zoning out just now

"You're useless, if you're not going to help just go" he said turning and headed back towards the whitewash stairs. STOP! I went to yell at him but nothing came out. Dammit! I lunged forward grabbing enough of his jacket to yank him back as something landed in front of him and slashed what looked like a knife blade at his stomach before backing up a few steps

"Seems your reflexes have improved, but I'm still better. Anyway forest dwellers, I'm not here for a fight" the attacker was male about 16 with light blonde hair and strikingly blue eyes. Sadly I knew him all too well

"Certainly seems like you're here for a fight Dex" Ruhr said, his voice dripping with malice, I could tell that Ruhr was only just resisting the urge to punch Dex in the face from the face his hand was clenched so hard that his knuckles were as white as a sheet in just a few seconds. Dex just laughed.

"Just making an entrance worthy of a prince"

"I see no prince" Ruhr said flashing Dex a sarcastic smile and pulled himself up to his full height, which was easily bigger than both me and Dex. The blonde on the other hand rolled his shoulders back and put his head up in a fashion so that his fringe shadowed his eyes and made him look even more threatening than he usually did.

"Sir, I have finished the job you instructed me to do" Another voice came behind me. What was it today with people creeping up behind me! I looked over at the owner of the voice, even if I did already know who it was. The girl that stood there was slightly smaller than me with dark brown, almost black hair and even blacker eyes which would make midnight look like summer in a desert. I noticed Ruhr looked slightly confused but gained back his normal poker face in a matter of seconds

"Seems like you didn't come alone huh" he said taking a step towards Dex but he held his ground

"Did you really expect any different from me, really forest dweller" he said bluntly, obviously just trying to provoke an attack out of Ruhr now… Sadly all four of us know that it wouldn't take long. Three or four threats, maybe five if we were lucky. He bent down and swiped the knife from Dex's hand, holding it in front of his face.

"Who are you?" he asked bluntly holding the knife behind his back so that he couldn't reach for it

"What are you talking about idiot!" he snapped glaring hard at Ruhr. If looks could kill… Ruhr inspected the knife for a second before glancing down at Dex

"First Dex doesn't use weapons" he said forcing the knife into the stone next to Dex's head with enough force to send a large split up with middle of the knife. Dex didn't seem fazed by this attempt to scare him but Vee was. She was trying her best not to go to the aid of Dex and I could see it in her eyes that it took all her strength not to kill Ruhr on the spot.

"Second, if I even came close to you with anything that could hurt you Vee and DJ would be on me in a second but shes still standing there , looking rather pissed off with me" He said looking over at the girl who now had her eyes closed but her shoulders were moving in a fashion that showed she was tense and breathing rather quickly.

"Just leave it half-blood!" She snapped, finally opening her eyes which had now gained a red tint. Ruhr was pushed aside by 'Dex' who was now grinning

"Alright, you got me, aren't you a cleaver one" He said, his voice now gaining a lighter tone, he walked over to the railings and leaned on them with a put on sigh

"WHO ARE YOU?!" Ruhr snapped his hands balling up into fists but before he could attack the imposter Vee kicked him hard in the back. He would have fallen over if he didn't have such a hard grip on the railing

"Try that again you little fucker and I won't hesitate to kill you on the spot, you get me!" She snapped showing the burning rage she was feared for, her eyes were a crimson red
now, quickly gaining on blood red

"Calm down Vee, I tried my best!" the imposter said trying to get her away from him but pushing on her shoulders but she didn't budge

"Change back, you sicken me, you don't deserve to take the form of my master" She snarled finally turning away from him and walked a few steps down the corridor before turning back and glared at the imposter

"Fine, but I was enjoying this form, it's nice being a noble" he smiled, earning a low animalistic growl from Vee. He gave a low chuckle before his hair darkened until it was black and his eyes lost their colour before settling on a mid-grey. Who the hell was this, I'd never met or even seen him before.

"Come on useless, we're running late" Vee said getting ready to leave before Ruhr interrupted them

"Wait, wait, wait, fill me in here, who is this and why are you here Vee is Dex isn't?" he asked standing between Vee and the new boy, Vee placed her hand on Ruhr's shoulder, her white fingers digging in and drawing blood as she leant over her own hand and whispered in his ear

"Don't mess with us pesent" she hissed making Ruhr draw back half in shock and half in horror, she gave him and sadistic grin and brought her hand up to her mouth. Her tongue darting over her fingers and licked the blood off them

"Elven blood always did taste strange, but it's better than nothing" she said, scaring the shit out of Ruhr, he gained his confidence back slowly and straightened his shoulders

"Fine, at least tell me who he is" he said, his voice not as commanding as before and had a nervousness about it

"you don't…." she started but was cut off by the boy

"My name, is that all you want to know, you don't ask how come you can transform or anything like that? Well seeing as you asked I might as well introduce myself as Alastair and I am..." He was cut off from his strange little performance but his foot catching on the bottom of the railings and he lost his balance for a second, a second later he was gone. Over the edge of the balcony with Vee standing in his place watching as he fell

"You pushed him?" Ruhr asked and Vee nodded

"He was pissing me off" she said bluntly as there was a large crash from a few stories down, she looked over the balcony and grinned, obviously happy with herself from pushing her ally off a three story building

"If his legs are broken I'm not paying for a new one…" Vee said seeming to no one but then she turned to look at Ruhr

"It's okay, he's replaceable" Dex said from behind Ruhr, making him just, the real Dex this time, I could tell by the aura he gave off, it made me feel insecure, it always did, Ruhr stepped back a few steps watching Dex

"Real one this time?"

"Yes" Dex replied simply to Ruhr's question, his blue eyes skimming us both for a second before looking at Vee, and she nodded

"Yes Master" she said, her form dissolving into smoke and blew away leaving an awkward silence alone with me, Ruhr and Dex on the balcony. Dex obviously had control of the situation here

"I suggest you two never speak of what happened her, I don't think the monarchy wants anyone to know that they hire incompetent people as knights" he said his voice never changing in tone an always stayed monotone, almost as if he was scared to show emotion. Ruhr frowned taking up a subtle defensive stance

"What if we don't?" he asked

"If you don't we will kill you, and if you're lucky you will become a slave in the royal household" he said without dropping a beat, still perfectly calm and emotionless. I looked over at Ruhr, knowing exactly what he was planning, which was to get Dex's trust then put a knife right between his shoulder blades

"Okay, then we'll keep it a secret" Ruhr smiled, somehow keeping a completely straight face through his blatant lie, Dex laughed, his laugh wasn't a normal laugh but it was bitter and full of malice

"You filthy half-blood elven scum, how DARE you lie to me" Dex said, his voice starting off relatively calm but with each word it became darker and gained an almost psychotic quality. Now we were screwed. Totally screwed. If the vampire monarchy were known for one thing that wasn't Vee's temper, it was Dex's little outbursts. He was a ticking time bomb just waiting for the right time to explode, and this was the right time. In a fraction of a second he had Ruhr by the neck, the base of his thump pressing dangerously hard on Ruhr's windpipe, enough to make him gag slightly

"Dex!" Ruhr managed to choke out, trying to pull Dex's hand off his neck, I lunged forward and managed to loosen the blondes grip on Ruhr. Stupid bloodsuckers why do they have to be so strong!

"Hey blondey! Stop trying to kill people, I get bored of cleaning up the bodies" I noticed as a dark haired boy, equally as pale as Dex but was a few centimetres taller. I had only ever met him once, Damell. He was the spitting image of what people think when you say vampire, with his black hair and crimson red eyes that were shaded by his fringe. He even had the whole tall, dark and handsome vibe about him. According to what I'd heard Damell was Dex's right hand man and did most of his dirty work, his last statement just supported this.

"Don't test me Damell, I'm not in the mood for your bullshit right now" Dex said stepping away from Ruhr but gave him one last glare before leaving down the stairs at a pace slightly faster than a walk but not quite a run

"Thanks" Ruhr coughed rubbing his neck which was now swelling slightly and turning a pinky-red colour

"I didn't do it for you, I did it to save my own skin" Damell said bluntly, he didn't seem to hold the same sort of hatred towards us as normal vampires did but he still obviously didn't like us

"It doesn't matter, thank you anyway"

"Whatever, just I suggest you don't cross the purebloods again because next time I won't be there to bail you out" Damell pushed his hair out his face and looked up at us, his eyes looking over the bruising on Ruhrs neck

"You might want to get that looked at" and he was gone. Ruhr looked at me in pure disbelief

"That was… eventful…" he muttered looking over the balcony at where Alastair had been pushed, I followed his gaze to see a large crumbling hole in the roof of the drama studio which sat below the balcony. I dug out my phone from my pocket and typed out on it

'Good luck fixing that' I had to nudge Ruhr's should to get him to read it

"ahh wait, that means I load more work for me" He leant his elbows on the fence and buried his face in his hands, I patted his shoulder and deleted the last message on the phone the typed again

'I better be going, I don't want to get caught' Ruhr nodded and said a quick goodbye before I took my turn on going down the stairs, finding Ellette easily in the courtyard and headed out of the large metal gates that stood on the entrance to the campus.
