Description A documentary shot of a Lesser Mouse-deer (Tragulus javanicus fulviventer) The Lesser Mouse-deer is one of the rare residents of Singapore that can be found in Central Catchment Area of the island.

I was extremely fortunate and privileged to have witnessed and photographed this shy wild animal up close recently, when it ventured out of the forest cover to hunt for food.

This is a male Lesser Mouse-deer. The male have prominent and sharp upper canines projecting out on either side of the mouth. It is an omnivorous feeding on fallen fruits, young shoots and fungi. It is known to be solitary generally. It is the smallest known hoofed mammal, at a mature size as little as around 45 cm (18 inches) and 2 kg (4.4 lb).

Wow, in the wild! It must have been a lovely moment. I have only seen them once at the Night Safari there.
