Hum, interesting what you did with it. I like how you got some nice bright highlights in there, and some good dark shading. I think it makes it look more dramatic.
Now, if I may make a suggestion. Set your brush to being 0% hardness, it makes it so you can blend better and not see so many brush strokes. As well as using a lower opacity, it makes it look a lot smoother.
However you may not wish to take that advice, as is the visible brush stokes seem to give it a nice texture.

It was done in Paint Shop pro.
I Coloured each section with the lightest shade and then painted over its with a slightly transparent brush. So with every brush I do, the dark it becomes.
