So, with the policy that I have...of introducing the 'silvermender' into every story i partake as some sort of random element, I came to the conclusion that I needed more illogical bullshit in Psion (because blue space magic is not enough)

Wherein orichalkum is 'THE' element in this story (you guessed right, glowy blue ore) and it is responsible for many things such as psionic amps, fuel for hyperdrive, energy for near-omnipotent creatures, ancient tech activation, etc. OH, and a tasty tasty resource for ever-hungry chalkurites--there is also an 'anti orichalkum' which atm just includes *drumroll* yep, silver

for some reason i haven't researched, silver has properties which deter orichalkum, an invasive element which consumes other ones and assimilates it into itself. Chalkurites are essentially, living orichalkum (among other spoilery things) and they posess the ability to not only consume other elements or materials and add to their biomass, but also consume people (as i've shown countless times with previous sketches and little snippets) particularly humans, of which they are veeery fond of stuffing themselves with. The way they consume them is akin to an energy-syphon, where they turn their bodies into biomass while adding their echo (a psionic form of orichalkum) to themselves

BUT. If they do not, by some streak of luck, manage to eat the person, they can contaminate them with physical contact or by extended 'inhaling' (close-range but not direct contact syphon) in which the creature's infected by an echo hemorrhage, where they start producing liquid-state orichalkum. Shit i'm tired, why am i even explaining this. LONG STORY SHORT: ORICHALKUM FILLS YOUR BLOODSTREAM. U DIE OF OVERDOSE. It's like space aids. but with a virulent metal filling your body.

THAT IS. IF YOU'RE A DELTA HUMAN (neo homo sapiens, just improved versions of us)
if you happen to be a human, like, just average, no steroids or shit that make you better. you don't get aids, you just turn into a feral man-eating plasma monster like the one that molested you

Chalkurite infections are orichalkum based, and while these are incurable, contamination can be slowed down by use of silver treatment (among other treatments, but this one is kind of a cooler tradition-like thing...and it sits well in a western story arc) . It's a technique that was first employed by natives after Singing lured chalkurites to the world through orichalkum mining
People who learn how to diminish the effects of echo contamination from chalkurite attacks are called 'Silvermenders'
They do not cure the disease...just make you feel more comfortable before you succumb to your system going haywire after your blood gets replaced with blue shit.

Well, I think I've made clear. Pint, the lil arab douche prick there, is a chalkurite (of the non-feral kind) and being a chalkurite, aversion to silver manifests just as it would do with orichalkum...except, it's nowhere near as bad as people would expect it to be. despite that, locals continue to carry around silver charms in hopes of preventing surprise feral chalkurite attacks on their property or themselves, though it doesn't do the local friendly loudmouth brat any favors
