Piccolo, the REAL star of Dragonball Z! He was the first to force Goku to seek additional training outside Roshi. He took it to Goku in a spectacular fight, blowing shit up and practically setting the precedent for DBZ.He was the original reformer in DBZ, sacrificing himself to save little Gohan. Vegeta was just an imitator. And Cell? Where would he be without Piccolo? His head would have been stomped in by Android 16.( 'Cause he wouldn't be able to regenerate.) What I'm getting at is that Piccolo is the pivotal character in DBZ and source of all things awesome!
And the title is an homage to "Dragonball Z Abridged" on Youtube. Give it a try if you haven't already.

Actually, I believe it was Tao Pai Pai who forced Goku to find another mentor. Granted, Korin didn't exactly give a legitimate training like Roshi or Kami, but he was still a mentor.
Anywho, Piccolo really needs his props. If it weren't for the Saiyans constant upstaging, he'd probably be one of the most powerful characters ever.

You forgot to mention he created the dragonballs in the first place, thus Bulma would have never made a radar to find them, and Goku would have lived his life in the woods until the Saiyans shows up to wipe out all of humanity.

It didn't stop. If you look at TFS' youtube channel, they've posted a notice that Episode ten will be uploaded around late May/early July. It's apparently taking a while because it's a long episode.

I remember the first episode I saw of DBZ and it was the epsiode that Piccolo first brought Gohan to the island to be trained. From that moment on I don't know why...but Piccolo and Gohan became my favorites on the show.

I have to critique your description, actually. Goku trained with Karin after getting his ass beaten by Tao Pai Pai. I think that's the first time he trained under someone who wasn't Roshi. Either way, it was way before Piccolo showed up.
