it would depend when you were there. they took her back to Normandy for a D-Day rememberance, and she goes out on re-enactment voyages, so you might have just missed her for one of those reasons.

I was there in 1990 last time. So it was a LOOONG time. Lol.
Although, back then the USS Whipple, FF 1062 was docked where the Liberty Ship currently is so my dad and I got to go on a tour of her as well. I went and looked up some old pictures from that trip.

ah nice, the Whipple was an active duty ship at that time. I've been lucky enough to have been on board every class of ship in the U.S.Navy including a Los Angeles Class Attack Submarine, a boomer is the only ship type I've never toured.

Oh lucky you.
When we were in San Fran. for that trip, the Enterprise was in port but we were not able to get over to Alameda to see if they were holding tours.

oooh, 1990 would have been right around Desert Storm, not likely there would have been any tours or open house events on any ships.

Well then perhaps it was a good thing then.
At least I got to see the Big E, even from a distance.

I really hope that they name one of the new Gerald Ford class Enterprise as she is due to be decommissioned wither this year or next.

It would be great to see the name Enterprise continue to be active in the Navy.

they fire her up and take her out a couple times a year.
