Don't quote me on this but,
TAKARA-TOMY was practically the predecessor to Hasbro in the US.
First time they started to gain speed was during the 1980's. Hasbro bought the design spec's for Takara's Diaclone series of transforming robots (retooling them as transformers) and later commissioned, ol' what's his face to work on their My Little Pony project, though back then it wasn't even called my little pony... (it was something like my cute horse or something like that) Anyways if your interested look up hasbro on wiki or just watch this guys video: ([link] )
