Great job! <3 I can see your skill here. :3 I love the backstory about being a helper writing dragon. I have a little helper of my own (a rat with wings) but I have no sculpture of him sadly

finals already? Wow o-o School feels like it just started for me. We don't have final project type things until the very end of the year. <3 but oh sheesh writing. It's always an experience!
...I ought to try sculpture for my characters who don't have purchased figurines to match them. Any kind of tips? Do you use the wire armatures and such or do you just go right on in with a wad of clay and get to it? And do you bake your little guys?

My first several dragons I just kinda jumped in feet first with nothing but a wad of clay, but with my newer (better) dragons like Griffin and Tomako I used scuplting wire to make the base for the wings.
For clay I like to use sculpty clay, but you have to keep it wrapped up or it will dry out. Make sure to wash your hands before you use it because anything you have on them will get in the clay and glunk it up. If your clay does get hard, you can try a LITTLE water, but it's better just to keep everything wraped up in a plastc bag or something. I bake it in the oven on parchmnt paper (wax paper burns) on a cookie sheet, and usually just bake it till some of the thinner extremities turn purple. Even if sme of the thicker parts seem to still be soft, let it set for a little while, because it will harden over time. And for paint I use various acryllic paints.
Some other random tips (maybe it would be easier to just make a tutorial?) would be to keep your hair tied back if you have long hair, smooth any bumps or marks out before you bake it, and keep your finger nails timmed (clay is a pain to get out from under nails, and they'll make nwated arks on your clay). If you have a rough spot after your back it, just use a nail filer or some sand paper to sand it down.

Hmm.... I'll have to give it a shot myself then. ^^ I think I might have trouble getting the poses and stuff and I've never built on wire before but hey, you don't learn if you never try right?

exactly!! if it helps, i always do a (horrid) sketch of the pose, of what they are holding/ wearing, the details and such, just to organize my thoughts (because i am VERY scatter-brained). Send me a pic so i can see how it turns out if you decide to do it!

it might also be called arbiture wire. as long as its flexable and doesnt have any kind of casing around it (i.e. rubber or plastic, like electrical wire) it should be fine

aww you've barely scratched the surface!! You gotta read the rest, they are amazing. But the latest cliff hanger before the next book comes out was just. plain. mean! xD I've acutally talked (emailed) to the author before, he's a pretty great guy... even with sneaky evil cliff hangers...
I hope I see something soon too!! I'll keep watching ^.~
