I know fans grew up with the original Rankin/Bass version, but I loved the 1998 Rudolph by Good Times Entertainment the best. First of all I loved the voice acting, especially John Goodman’s role as Santa cause he’s more kind and caring than his Rankin/Bass counterpart. Second of all, I loved the designs of the reindeer and elves cause you can tell which one is who. Thirdly, Zoey is a better character than Clarice cause not only she has more screen time, but also more character development. Plus she’s a better love interest and a much more lovable doe. Whopie Goldberg is a great Stormella. She’s also better than the Abominable Snow Monster in the original cause he’s too frightening for little kids. Furthermore, while i did enjoy the songs from the original Rankin/Bass, I personally don’t mind the songs in this one because they’re pretty memorable in my opinion. My most favorite song is “Show Me the Light” because it’s such a beautiful love song and it reflects the relationship between Rudolph and Zoey. The animation here is also amazing. Again the original Rankin/Bass version is really good, but I still prefer the 1998 movie more. So let me know if your thoughts.
