Description I know are doing a re-imagine Santa deal right now. Thought I'd doodle something out, but I'm not submitting it unfinished. I might try a few other things first.

Some neat designs in here. I seem to get better designs if I start with very basic shapes. It also seemed a bit easier drawing unusual poses. I'd like to do more.

Yup.

Haha, one of those little poses looks like me when I'm about to squish a spider! XD

I myself am not thrilled about the Re-imagine Challenge in general (yes, even the old Goku and Megaman ones), since you aren't really creating a new character; you're just drawing a popular existing one in a different style/theme. I'm more interested in making up characters from scratch. :/

Yeah, I feel about the same. Re-imagine, or even that last chibi challenge that used Marvel characters, kind of lends itself to a fan-arty sort of deal. That's cool for a ton of other folks I guess, but it's often not for me, not unless I get some wacky idea.
Might do it anyway though. It's fun to entertain.

Sure! Knock yourself out. (In a good way, I mean...<__<)

I think that even the Gender-switch challenge may still be too "fan-arty," but I can stand it since they're changing the existing character enough to be considered a "new design" for a character.

I don't draw fanart very much (which is why I'm not doing the latest challenges), and I'm afraid that one or two people may have watched me only because they hoped that I would do more. And while that's flattering in its own way, I'm still bursting with Original stories and characters and I don't feel like doing any more fanart for a while. I can't please everyone, I suppose.

Then again, I read somewhere that to get noticed nowadays, you've got to draw lots of fanart because nobody cares about your own stuff.

I've heard the same thing actually. While fan-art is certainly fun to do sometimes, I'm not too big on outright pandering to fandoms and stuff. Seems like a quick and dirty way to get attention from the fans of whatever, and you and those fans are just sharing in the fandom.
But with some good original works, you could have your very own fans, some of which may create tribute to your work. This fascinates me.

Seems like a long road to all that though. For now, it's better to set smaller, reachable goals, like getting a better understanding of light, shadow, and color, improving linework, and all that.
And along the way, you still get to meet some cool folks.

My thoughts exactly.

I'll be sure to keep your last thought in mind; improving yourself leads to being (somewhat) satisfied with your work, and as long as you're honestly happy with the way it turned out, and have the knowledge that you'll still improve as you go along, I think that's a better reward than all the faves in the world.
