Do you remember the alternate ending of "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" when was really Smithers who shot him? He was the suspect with the most sensitive reasons... his broken heart because Burns fired him, and he was drunk and very depressed.I can imagine his pain and suffering when he realized that... because, after all, he love his boss very much.

I adore the drawing. Your Simpson style is so good. Weirdly if they had picked the alternate ending it would prove that Mr. Burns is indeed fond of Smithers than he lets out. I mean his punishment was to be re-hired with a 5% paycut. It was as if saying "Dammit I like Smithers' smoxy. Better re-hire him but scold him a bit."

I thought the same thing as you. If you remember, in the official ending Burns wanted to imprisonment Maggie, but he was not doing something like that with Smithers. It's better the alternate ending in my opinion.
