• Bravery / She will go to places others are afraid to go near and will not show fear no matter what the circumstances. Her bravery comes from her lack of understanding when she is in a dangerous situation.
• Determination / Once her mind is set on something she will try to accomplish it no matter what she has to do or how long it takes.
• Swordsmanship / One of the few things she picked up easily. Her ability to wield a sword comes in handy when she gets into, what other people would call, “dangerous situations.”

Personality / Siri is not very smart, but because of this she is “brave.” She is afraid of nothing. Life threatening situations don’t faze her one bit. Siri takes situations as they are and is never surprised by anything; she responds quickly and accordingly to any situation thrown at her.
Just because she isn’t a very bright girl doesn’t mean she is not kind. Siri is an honest girl and never lies and is also very obedient. She is considerate and kind to others regardless of who they are, but if she thinks her life is in danger she will retaliate. Siri won’t hesitate to hurt anyone who threatens to do her harm.
Since she doesn't always understand what people say she can be quiet at times, but she isn't afraid to speak her mind, either. She does, however, have a tendency to do or say strange and/or awkward things because of her idiocy.

Story / There once was a father who had two daughters. The elder daughter was smart and could do everything, but the younger was stupid and couldn’t learn or understand anything. The elder daughter always had to do everything because the younger daughter could not. However, if the task the father wanted the elder daughter to carry out was at night or led through an eerie place the elder forced the younger daughter to go in her stead because, unlike the elder, the younger was not afraid. This story is about the younger daughter, named Siri, who did not know fear.

One day Siri’s father asked, “Siri, my child, you must learn something by which you can earn a living. I know you are skilled with a sword, as that is the only thing you’ve learned that has stayed in your head, but you can’t make a living with that. You sister works hard and earns money, but you don’t do a thing.” To this Siri replied, “Well, father, I would like to learn how to shudder. My dear sister and everyone else is capable of doing it so I would very much like to learn how to as well.” The father sighed and said, “Even if you learn how to shudder you won’t be able to earn any money.”

A church official came to visit and Siri’s father complained to him how his daughter said she wanted to learn how to shudder when he asked her how she was going to earn money. “If you send her to me I’ll teach her how to shudder,” replied the official. So Siri went to live with the official and was woken up to ring the bell in the church tower at midnight each night. One night the official went up before Siri thinking he would scare the girl by pretending to be a ghost. Siri went up the tower and, just as she was going to ring the bell, saw a shadowy figure standing on the stairs. “Who are you?” she asked, but the figure did not respond. “If you won’t answer then leave. I will push you down the stairs if you do neither.” The official just stood there silently, thinking there was no way that she would actually push him down the stairs. Siri called out to him a third time and, as she got no reply, pushed him down the stairs. With that she rang the bell and returned home where the church official’s wife was waiting for her husband. “Did you see my husband?” she asked Siri. “He went up the tower before you did.” “No, I didn’t see him,” Siri replied, “But someone was in the tower. I called to him and he neither gave a response nor went away so I thought he was a bad guy and pushed him down the stairs. I apologize if it was him I pushed down the stairs.” The wife hurriedly went to check and found her husband groaning on the steps with a broken leg.

The church official’s wife told Siri’s father about how Siri threw her husband down the stairs and demanded that Siri leave her home. The father was enraged and would not listen to Siri when she tried to explain her innocence. “I am very unhappy with you. Get out of my sight, I don’t want to see you anymore,” he said. “Yes, father. I will leave once it is morning and then I will go forth and learn how to shudder.” “Learn whatever you want. Here, take this money and leave. Tell no one where you come from or who your father is because I am greatly ashamed of you,” he said as he handed her a pouch of coins. “Yes, father. If that is all you want I can easily keep it in mind.”

As soon as morning came she left her home and went out on the road while repeating, “If only I could shudder.” And thus began her journey to learn what fear was.
