Description from 1990 The Nutcracker Prince.

This part has made me think of things regarding the Mouseking as not being so bad as everyone expected him to be.

He returned Clara's slipper that she threw at him the other night. Although all he did was tell Clara that he is going to destroy her Nutcracker, he still could of done so without bringing her slipper back.

This scene is just when the Mouseking was leaving, Clara asks the royal rodent to spare the nutcracker. Why did he stop to listen? He could of just said some crude remarks and continue his leaving. But instead, he looks at her quietly. Makes you wonder if he was hoping for something else to happen like maybe discussing on ending the feud and maybe show some compassion towards him. Sadly this was not to be though.

I guess he really wasn't as bad as he sounds to be. I mean, he did listen and get tricked by Clara into thinking she'd be nice to him before she trapped him.

Yeah, through out his life, he never had anyone ever show him true kindness. That is why he probably always lashed out at everyone. That little pause was probably him slightly hoping something would change the better for him for once.
