Now that's something new! I've tried to look it up, and i think it's a "Ananas Comosus" . I think it looks like it (although the image is quite "red"). There's something about that all plants can be subject to variagation, changing some of the color in the leaves, mostly in the edges i think.

Roz.. its on a long thick 'stem' I couldn't bear to eat it.. there was a bucketful in the flower shop.. quite funny

Must be something that they have artificially evolved from crossing it with something else. I know they put fish genes in tomatoes and lots of other stuff goes on...

This has been happening for a great many years Gea. You are very naive sweetie. They did it to make tomatoes taste sweeter, apparently it is vest to buy the ones on the vine... Or so I am told. When you say ask the owner, whom do you mean? The owner of the shop just buys at the wholesaler and sells to you...

Although we here a great deal about genetically modified foods, we are still eating them and have been for a very long time.
