Why is this still here? You said you took down the traced copies. You said you rarely use dA but you have new postings at least every two weeks. You claim to be in college and an "artist" but you say you don't even know what a print is? I still see a "buy this print" button up there.

Is that even considered tracing...? That is just copying a pose.. if copying a pose is called tracing, then tens of thousands of artists, animes, movies, etc. are tracing and thus wrong...

If you overlap the images, some of the lines match up perfectly. It's not a coincidence. There's a difference between referencing a pose, and blatantly copying it.

But what the artist is bothered about is that the pose is copied, which is in my opinion, pretty childish to be mad about, but I can be wrong on multiple levels, I have been keeping myself out of this crap for the longest time possible, honestly I also don't give a damn about the whole 'OMG GearBoy is a fraud! OMFG GearBoy stole this! ZOMFG GearBoy did this and that and blablabla!', I agree with you on that it is a pretty cheap knock-off to just trace the lines and fill in your own character, but c'mon, do we really have to lose our shit because of it..?

How would you like it if someone traced your character, added some things, and called it their own, then started profiting off those tracings?
That's why everyone is getting so upset. Even if Gearboy wasn't profiting off these images, he's still claiming them as his own (without crediting), it's largely frowned upon in the art-world.
Basically, everyone on DA is some sort of artist, and with that, they can empathize with each other.

Look, I don't really care about people tracing me because I am a completely bad artist and I don't even draw good and I just don't get it that there is such a big cluster-f*ck about 2 different characters having the same pose? I mean like, they don't even resemble eachother in any way possible, so I don't really get the frustration, if it was like : redrawn with other colors, style and some small additions, then yeah, I completely agree, but I just don't seem to get it at this one..

Don't say that, you're just beginning your artistic journey. (not to mention, I've seen people steal all kinds of art, from all different levels.)
The problem here is, the poses were blatantly traced, not just copied. You see, when an artist has a certain style, it becomes uniquely theirs. Hmm, just think about it, you're browsing DA, and see a certain picture from one of your favorite artists, you can tell right off the bat who drew it, right? They have a distinct style they they can be recognized by.
In this case of tracing, Gearboy deliberately traced and took JJ's style. I personally believe The most noticeable feature in JJ's work, is how he draws hips and legs. I can pick out JJ's work JUST by those attributes.
Look at the tracing, the legs are 100% JJ's style, with absolutely no difference. You see, that's what makes tracing so taboo, you're taking someone else's property, their perception on certain drawing aspects.
I'm sorry if my explanation isn't too clear, I don't know how else to say it...

It was clear enough, seems that my definition of tracing was different than yours, but I guess I am on your side now, now that I know what the right definition is, the art style is stolen and I agree that GearBoy is at fault in this one, hope he is gonna find a way to settle this so that both parties can get along again.. well.. at least I hope so..

Agreed. And if you look at his other stuff, there is no concrete style, they're all different. It seems as though he finds a style he likes, and traces it.
