Description

The Last Monster of the Grendizer series, Gura Gura was featured in the two part finale of the Anime; appearing by the tail end of Ep.73 and finished off at the start of Ep.74. Gura was the 78th Monster by order of appearance and was piloted by Lady Gandal taking control of the Gandal Body. (Ep.72 is skipped, as it had no Monster in it, as it was a Duke/Rubina/Zuril focus, though for the sake of context, it will be reference).

Gura Gura resembles a Robotic Bestial humanoid with the head of a Green snake and antenna over the head, claw hands and feet; it sport a Lavender, Purple, Gray and Black color schemes. Besides strength, it fired a Vegatron Energy Beam from the Yellow curve spikes in the chest and a stream of fire in the mouth. The head could operate as a ship in case the body was destroy.

For sake of brevity and context, the following will be summaries of the final 3 episodes, as there isn't much action with this monster, but a LOT of Character interactions before the Fleet Battles:

Eps.73 and 74 are built from the events that transpired in Ep.72, where Princess Rubina, daughter of the King of Vega and Duke's true love interest, comes to Earth to warn Duke that Planet Fleed, after 8 years of been left as a war torn Radioactive wasteland, is recovering to its once pristine self. She is unable to convince her father, who stubbornly wants to conquer Earth regardless, so she flies to Earth to find Duke; Minister Zuril, who had interest in the Princess, takes on to destroy Duke – in the end, his actions leads to Rubina been mortally wounded, and the Minister been killed by Koji in order to save Duke; However, before she passed away, Rubina gave the location of Skull Moon Base, thus setting in motion the final confrontation of Vega's War to conquer Earth.

Following Rubina's information, a Spy Satellite explores the dark side of the Moon, locating the Base before its shutdown; with their location discovered, King Vega (in mourning for his daughter's death) decides to lead the final attack, but Lady Gandal interjects and choose to fight Duke/Grendizer first, preparing the Beast Gura Gura.

For MOST of the episode, as Space Center build 3 new attack space craft for Koji, Hikaru and Maria, we get to see Duke interacting and spending time with the characters, as he knows the final fight approaches and has chosen to attack the Base in a suicide charge; Before going out on his final Patrol with the team, he gives his Necklace to Maria, which Koji takes notice, and recognizes from a previous interaction with Duke, it been the Symbol of the Throne of Royal Family – indicating he has made Maria the Queen of Fleed when she returns. Realizing Duke may been heading on a Solo suicide attack he catches up with Duke in the atmosphere and convinces him to seize the attack after all they been through, but he is shutdown by a UFO Capsule, containing Lady Gandal/Gura in it.

Duke saves Koji from a crash and confronts the Monster, ending the first Part.

The 2nd Part, Duke struggles with his adversary as it uses Vegatron Energy to keep him at bay, Koji wakes up and calls for the rest of the team, who provide support, this allow Grendizer and Double Spazer to connect, then take on the Monster, destroying its Vegatron Beam and finally, decapitating Gura - the rest of the body exploding.

Team Grendizer heads back to base, Lady Gandal (in the head of Gura) has an argument with the General Persona of the next course to take (the two half faces sharing screen here, akin to Baron Ashura of Mazinger Z); Lady wanting to live in peace, while the General wanting to continue the same bellicose path they been stuck in. Lady uses an Incapacitator knocking the General Persona and taking full control of the body, she then later sends a message to Space Center willing to live in Peace in exchange for killing the King; she returns to Skull Moon Base and tries to assassinate him, but the General Persona Awakens takes control of the gun and shoots Lady Gandal in the face, killing her Persona, but mortally wounding the General as well. Trying to show his loyalty to his King, a profusely bleeding General Gandal takes the Mother Fortress to fight Duke once more, knowing his time is short.

In his final confrontation with Grendizer, the Mother Fortress is damage; Gandal the sends burning wreck in a kamikaze onto the Mecha, but crashes onto a coastal cliff and explodes, killing Gandal and everyone on board.

With the General dead, now the King takes charge, boards his flagship (the King Vego), leads an attack fleet for the final assault, destroys Skull Moon Base, looking at nothing but the take over of the Earth. Detecting the incoming Fleet, Grendizer and the Team takes off on 3 new ships (The Cosmo Spazers) and fight the Invaders in Space, decimating the enemy fleet; Duke and the King have their final confrontation as he causes damage to the Flagship, the Cosmos destroying the main cannon; Grendizer slices the command tower, and the King, with Double Harken; the delusional tyrant laughs maniacally as his vessel explodes, taking him and what's left of the Vega Army with it.

The War now over, and their lost love ones avenged, Duke and Maria bid farewell to Koji and everyone on Earth and take off on Grendizer and return to the now heal Planet Fleed, to commence its rebuilding.
