Description Species name: Islanthers

Classified: Gentle

Intelligence level: Animal level or intelligent

---

They live in the water, and they can never leave the water. Just like whales, they breath air, but their body cant handle living on land, they need to regularly make their body wet. So in theory they could live out of the ocean, as long as their  basic needs for survival are met.

They wary in size, to an extreme degree! Once born they are just the size of a small car, 2-3 meters tall, but some grow insanely huge! Some reaching a height of several kilometers!

They live in the ocean by constantly floating/swimming around, but they dont go under the water.

Islanthers are living islands! They always swim/float with their backs towards the sky, as they have life on their backs! It all depends on their size and where they live, but they naturally grow flora in their backs, eventually resulting in forests, and life!

Once they are born their bodies are very soft, and once born they swim around, maybe even go under water for a bit, before discovering that they must breath air! Once they learn this they learn by watching their mother.
Learning from her to stay floating on top of the water!

You might ask 'but..how can they catch food then!?'. They catch food in a similar fashion to how we fish, using 'bait'.
They sing to attract food, what kind of food they eat differs on where they live, and of course, of big they are!

Their songs are beautiful, to humans its just beautiful songs, but to the local 'food' its like attracting moths to light! Islanthers spend their early years figuring out how to sing to attract the food they want, so the older ones can attract tons of food!

Fishermen are always trying to find islanthers who are singing, as where there is song, there is tons of fish! The humans are in no danger of doing this, as Islanthers are as extremely gentle in nature, the only time fishermen might keep a little more distance is if an Islanther has young children with her. Its not like the mother will harm the humans, she will just generate waves to send them away.

Speaking of humans, it often lives humans on Islanthers! Especially those who are insanely huge!!! 'but how do they get to them?!' well, humans often seek them out! The plant life on them are extremely healthy, as long as the Islanther is healthy, they are constantly on the move and attracts tons of fish! So making villages on them are known to be wise decisions!

Islanthers dont die of age, if everything goes fine, then they can potentially live forever!

They are naturally born with tiny seeds in their backs, which will after enough time in the sun, start to grow out of the little Islanthers back!
And as they grow in size and age, their dead skin cells turn into dirt! Over time forming the land along the backs of their bodies!

IF, an islanther should die, for some strange reason, then they will turn around automatically! Killing whatever life was on their backs, but as they are turned around will new life bloom on them in time! Once they become this "dead" stage, they are literally islands! Their breasts now mountains and their body completely motionless, as their once soft body turns to stone.

Speaking of breasts, yes, they breastfeed. When they are so young that they need milk do they drink milk from their mothers breasts, which is beneath the water, how far down depends on the size of the mothers breasts.
The babies reach the nipples by taking a deep breath, storing the air within an internal air space connected to the lungs, allowing the baby to swim down and drink milk for a time between 1-2 hours. As they do this the mother shields them with her hands, as sea predators could feast on them, although this is very difficult as the mothers skin is sensitive to underwater moment and waves.

When its night the babies need to sleep, so does the mother but she can go for long periods of time without sleep, but when the babies need to sleep the mother will keep them safe within her mouth! Where they are completely safe against their mothers sticky and warm tongue, surrounded by her warmth.

This brings us to what you might be guessing....how do these giantesses make children? To answer that we must first understand the Second type of Islanther, the Corathers.

---

When Islanthers give birth, they give birth to two types of babies, 1-2 Islanthers, and 1-3 Corathers.

Corathers are very similar to the Islanthers, the major difference is that they are supposed to live under water! Therefor, have gills like fish

They grow faster than the Islanthers and therefor leave their mother sooner, heading down to the bottom of wherever they are! Searching for the area with the biggest amount of food.

Corathers using the same method of collecting food as the Islanthers, although not the exact same. As they leave their mother to live in a much more dangerous living condition are they dependent on their own ability to survive!

When they are still small, compared to the big predators down there, do they dig themselves down, or hide in little caves. Attracting small enough to get in using their songs.

As years go by, and the Corather grows much bigger, do they grow corals on their back. Within these coral does sea life start to call their home! In some cases, the big predators who once hunted them will start living on them!

Corathers usually dont grow as large as Islanthers, but they can grow bigger than all expect for the biggest!

---

Which leads back to the previous part, how does the Islanther reproduce?

It functions quite like most species, just a little different.

When the Islanther feels ready to reproduce, she will start singing a special song. This song will attract Corathers, but only one fitting the size of the Islanther will get to reproduce.

Luckily the Corathers can figure out the size of the Islanther based on how powerful her song is, which will attract a Corather, who will swim up from the deep, until the lips of the two finally meet.

Once met they will hold hands. The Islanther floating on her stomach as the Corather is on its back. Their mouths in contact as their mermaid like tails hold its each other.

After hours of kissing the Corather releases a substance similar to ink, that it sends into the Islanther. Once the process is done the Corather will usually leave down to the depths again, although sometimes the Corather stays onto the Islanther! Until the two are basically molded together.

---

There are to main types of Islanthers (and Corathers), there are those who are like animals in nature, while still being gentle, and there are those who are intelligent, like humans or even more intelligent. Most of these points regard the ones who are more animal like, as no mother would let their little children leave (the corathers).

The ones who are more like animals and rely on instincts and their genetic mindset habit mostly the Northern oceans, while those who are intelligent and live without relying on their primal instincts; habit the Southern oceans.
