gee231205 — Personal isolation

Description There has been editing done to this to get this photo this colour however the light and shadow are near enough how the original image looked.

I think everyone at some point either feels like they are totally alone, wishes to be alone or actual removes themselves from everything around them. Sometimes loneliness is a call for help and at others a way of coping. I guess it's all to do with personal perspectives.

Gee,
Thank you for sharing this inspirational image. As you know I rarely favourite portrait shots but this one just screams out from your gallery. You have captured wonderfully the "angst" of youth, (I'm not that old that I don't remember!). The way you have composed this shot is very, very clever, the covering of the eyes only showing that wonderfully "uncertain, slightly frightened, slightly angry face", shows an inner awareness that most people of your age do not fully understand, and most certainly could not portray in this way. The light and shadow in this shot is also perfect and further adds to the emotional impact.
I have thoroughly enjoyed viewing this shot and cannot really convey how impressed I am by your ability to show the emotions, as you say yourself, we all feel at some time, and not always in youth!!
Well done Gee and keep up the good work.
Simon

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a nice comment. This work stemmed from the fact that I myself was going through a bad patch of feeling isolated a few days ago. I'm ok now but with my mum away and family matters getting to me I couldn't help but feel that way. I also think that it is important that we are aware of these feelings as people often keep them to themselves even though most of us will at one time or another feel this way.

I'm so sorry that this wonderful work has stemmed from a place not so pleasant for you, and glad to hear you now feel ok. Unfortunately, these times come and go, and in this case your photography was an outlet for your emotions. You are quite right, from one a "little older", it is important to acknowledge the way we feel, but I'm sure with the maturity that you have shown in this photograph, and the maturity you have shown with your reply, you will always find a way to deal with them. However, I have found that some of my better photography has been at times when the pressures of life seemed,"a little too much", and then my camera lens showed me a, "little piece of heaven". Not saying it is a "cure all" but helps some times.
Will stop rambling! Really showing my middle-aged boring, "there, there, all will be well", which I detested at your age, but sometimes, and I would never have admitted it!!, a little wisdom did seep through.
Take care Gee, but it still does not detract from a fantastic piece of true emotional art that will reach the hearts of many, not only young.

Thank you for taking the time to type, I don't find you to be rambling, in fact I find it interesting how people purvey art and the emotions behind it. I've always found that art in itself is a wonderful outlet for the emotions. Usually if I feel down or stressed etc I will just go out for a walk with my camera and being outside doing something I enjoy really lifts my spirits in a way I wouldn't have thought possible.

this is really nicely done! the composition of the dark and light and the detail of the cracked lips...it's all very strong in emotion
