As squeed previously, this is gorgeous.
I'm not sure how I feel about the broken lines, though. I'm usually a fan of creatively-textured linework -- whether it's hatching, sketch-style, or whatever -- but here it feels uncertain, hesitant, and (dare I say it) amateur. (She says as a person who's only really inked one thing. [and it's also a product of being acclimated to Casey and Alex's work])
I've just spent a crazy amount of time poring over this. And my highly-subjective verdict is this:
The lines on Roddy are working.
But on the smaller bots, they're more distracting. Only on the lineart; the colored version (as previously squeed) works perfectly. But I love lineart for its own sake. So yeah, the fading lines throw me. I see how you're using the technique to push certain things behind other things -- weaker lines go back, stronger lines come forward. And sometimes a weak line keeps a plane-change on a bot's armor from calling too much attention to itself, and makes putting in a highlight easier. But to me, there are a few too many weak lines, and it feels... yeah, back to that word, "uncertain." I catch myself getting hung-up on ink-blobs at the ends of lines. There's one specific line: on Magnus's chestplate, the underside of the right lower blue part, that really bugs me. I want that stronger, so his armor pops out.
Yeah, I've spent Waaaaaaaaaay too long analyzing this!
But That Time Spent Means RESPECT!!!!!
I've admired your work for so long. You get the Artists-I-Love treatment now, I'm afraid. I'll dig into your work for ages, and make you read all about it!
Feel free to ignore me and throw tomatoes. It's YOUR work after all, and your decisions!
Best of luck to you. I'm SO pleased that IDW's recognizing your abilities!

Thanks for your analysis on my line art! As much as I appreciate solid inks where every little thing is drawn and inked out, that's typically not my M.O. A big part of that is because I know I'll be coloring/painting this and a lot of the potentially missing information/details will be shown through colors. Now if I was to only stick with inks and not color it, I would for sure spend more time drawing/inking it. With that being said, the incompleteness look of it is intentional to save time, mostly.
As always, I love reading your comments! Very insightful.
