Hey, guys! Lookie look! We gots ourselves a new person to add to the Free! folder after the Samezuka Quartet. I present to you, Hiyori Tono!

Introduced in "Free! Take Your Marks", Hiyori is Ikuya's best friend and self-proclaimed guardian. In "Dive to the Future", he serves as an antagonist to Haru and the others. His personality shifts drastically from the movie, when we saw him as someone trying to convince Ikuya to talk to his old friends to an overprotective snake in the grass (funny, considering his spirit animal is a polar bear). Throughout the series, Hiyori likens himself to the Little Mermaid, how he does everything for his "prince" but the prince won't give him the time of day. It's a constant tug of war between him and Ikuya about who's actually the mermaid in their relationship. In future episodes, we learn Hiyori knew Ikuya since childhood, but the latter forgot about him when he got older. Hiyori never forgot. Needless to say, Free! does not have character deaths. Not yet, anyway... So, yeah, Hiyori will live to see the 2020 special.

Hiyori: "Did I really make you THAT mad?"

Me: "That and you're just a mirrored palette swap of Makoto. Can Ikuya copy Haru any further?"

Hiyori: "I look nothing like Tachibana!"

Me: "Hmmm... Bara body, backstroke, glasses, Haru palette swap's friend... Need I go on?"

Hiyori: "At least I did more swimming than Makoto."

Me: *raises hands* "I'm not jumping into those shark infested waters. Find you an iceberg to climb, cuz here comes the school."

Rin: *death glare*

Ikuya: "Now what?"

Me: "He started it."

Hiyori: *prepares concealed knife from the Little Mermaid book*

Okay, for the record, I do not head cannon Hiyori as a yandere. Those who get off on that kink, please burn. Thank you. Especially you, crazy chick in Japan.

Hiyori: "That escalated quickly..."

Ikuya: "We sound nothing alike..."

Roxas: "Yeah, really. I'm way cooler than him."

Kei Tsukishima: "Losers..."

Soul Eater: "How did I end up here?!"
