That is realy odd, I thought there was a reflection happening at first,
It looks almost like they are playing the chicken game, where two teams have someone sitting on someone elses shoulders,
meet to try and pull one down.

Wow, this moment looks totally surreal, which is one of the reasons that makes this photo so great. I love that the background is so dark the blue stands out like this. All in all you were very lucky to stumble upon this and get the chance to take a photo. And you did a really good job catching this.

A minor point, they're damselflies. But that doesn't take anything from the fact that this is one of the best insect behavioural shots I have ever seen.
