Description Umbra, God of Shadows and Chaos... Worshiped by all creatures who would hide themselves, and their actions from the light. Umbra loves to cause mischief, both benign and malicious, and is believed to be quite insane.
Umbra is the unseen, always hidden. He may be a strange figure clad in shadow, or you may glimpse him out of the corner of your eye, but he will vanish if you try to look at him.

I'm working on paintings of the Gods that make up the custom pantheon I'll be using in my next D&D campaign. For each of the gods, I'm trying to keep them vague, and sort of abstract. One thing about the regular D&D pantheon is that each race kind of has it's own god, but I want to make mine more general, and race-less. Most of the gods are based on various characters who have appeared in my current campaign (so obviously they have a race, mostly humans). Umbra was the rouge PC, played by ~DMentia . His mortal name was Beaver.

During his mortal life, Beaver was very goofy and fond of pleasure and fun. Some of his goofiness could be attributed to his mind being used as a plaything for a horrible Cthulhu-like god/titan. After having his mind broken and mended numerous times, he found himself able to hear the thoughts of others, and able to make use of a number of other minor psionic powers, and he eventually pursued reinforcing those abilities by sacrificing much of his remaining sanity.

His insanity was usually harmless, but not always, he would occasionally harm others for his entertainment, or just in a fit of violence. Once he became lucid however, he regretted such outbursts deeply. He always cared a great deal for all of his friends, and would go to great lengths to make sure they were kept safe, and in good health.

Fun Fact
Beaver, the PC upon which Umbra is based, bought a horse vary early in the game. The horse was black, and of quite bad temperament. He named the horse Shadowmere.

the composition is greatly done. colors are good. for a one by one character depiction I cant see any flaws in this one.

Wow. I think that this is one of your best works as far as digital coloring goes. The way that you have the highlights looking like skin texture is great, and I really like how he looks like he has smoke and shadow radiating from him. Really good work here.

Oooh, the Cthulhu-like comment makes me not feel as bad for thinking Lovecraft with his design. You can quite possibly blame Shin Megami Tensei's (JRPG series) Nyarlathotep for that jump. I do love the art, and I really like the comments. I'm a bit surprised on the weapon, I would have expected something more easily concealable. Then again, I do love my daggers (I tend to play a Rogue) so that may have something to do with it...

Nice art!

Oh, he can still conceal his weapons But he's never really used daggers all that much. In fact, currently (the game is still going on) he fights with a pair of "scimitars"(they're really more like katanas >.>).

Hey, there is absolutely nothing wrong with weapon inaccuracies in D&D. This is D&D, not historical fiction! And hey, maybe he can use a successful bluff check to make people think he just has REALLY exotic scimitars!

I liked rogues back when they were still called Thieves. XD The last Edition I know for sure that did that was AD&D 1st, back when they had to be of an evil alignment. XD

Most of my deities use custom domains, but I was sure to... be sure that all of the core ones were used as well.

I'm glad you find it... interesting
