Description A test of how well I could draw manga panels after reading "Heavy Metal Warrior XENON" a few times (anyone heard of that manga?). The first thing that came to me was Tobio Tenma and how he got deaded. After all, if Astro Boy is a cyborg (which he is, at least in MM9), he's going to have to explain how he got that way sooner or later.

One thing I like about 80s-to-early-90s manga (though all the ones I picked up were flopped) is the style and violence. It makes our modern manga (or most of it, anyway) look tame. [Crying Freeman...well, you're just going to have to read that on your own. If you're 21.] I attempted to use some of the inking techniques used in XENON, though I think I McFailed. What I didn't want to do was go into detail about how Tobio died, so I cut off Astro's words right there.

Did I mention that I don't like drawing cars? Had to use a photo for reference.

[Side Note: While I don't like prudish Americanizations, even "Toby" sounds better than "Aster Boynton". I see what you did there, Fred Ladd.]

Ladd did what he had to do, without him Anime would be a niche thing

Manga of the 80s and 90s did have some great style.

Nice, it's really a clip of manga... Don't you want to draw more?

Thanks! And most certainly, once I think of what else to draw.

Hmm...
That really does look like a page from a manga, no matter what you said...

o.O Holy shit, Radix, when I first saw this thing I thought you just scanned it from some manga...but then when I saw it was in your style, I was, like..."Whoa."

I wouldn't say it was perfect, but you might be able to get something with this technique published with just a little more practice. I think the tone on the figure is a little weird, though, and that's probably where you seemed to have "McFailed." That's a quote for the book. XD

Me? Uploading scans? Only from my own sketchbook, ma'am

Yeah, seems I misplaced my "light dot-shading" tone somewhere in Photoshop. :/ Think it was meant for dramatic effect--or at least, so you could actually SEE Tobio.
