with those full masks who could tell who was in charge? with an appropriate voice modulator it could seem as though the church was always the voice of the leader... Hence strengthening the ties of the church to the state further.

true, but in reality, the Germanican Empire uses religion as a tool for their extremist ideals rather than allow religion to control the government because to allow religion to have full power would make them a feudal state like Ivaball, thus causing the abolishment of science and technological superiority, which goes against the Party's totalitarian ideals, although they themselves are Gottwienists. Neither the less, the masses could continue to see theocracy as a "messiah state" and basically blind from the real power behind the throne: the Party and the military it controls. This is basically a government that secretly pulls the strings of every aspect of life to control society, especially in religious terms. Very few holy bibles in Germanicus survive only to be hidden away within government libraries along with literary works that hold non-technolist ideals to keep the masses from knowing the truth. The Party does not wish to destroy knowledge, but rather it wishes to keep it for itself because of the term "KNOWLEDGE IS POWER" and they could secretly use it to fulfill their plans for a totalitarian society with that mass amount of knowledge and power. Its much like what Orwell said: "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely".

True hence my comment, without a recognisable face the masses would believe that their church was never changing, while the reality is that it is easier for the Government to control, if a priest questions the authority of the Government he/she is replaced and no one would tell the difference, keeping the illusion that the church (and thereby the Govt.) are always in control.

and This is what seperation of church and state(which isnt in the constitution, it was mentioned in passing in a document by Thomas Jerfferson, sorry people who think it is.)was SUPPOSED to prevent, protect the church from the government not the other way around however I can sympathize to some extent on the latter.

Exactly. However, the Gottwienist faith serves as a puppet, which means the Party, which holds the real power, can manipulate those of that faith.
