Description I took a siesta and asked a few APH fangirls why I should give this series another chance. Already tried it and was disgusted by how they trivialized a very dark point in history with fucking retarded fanservice.

Every answer I got was stupid.

"It made learning history fun!" NO IT DIDN'T. There is NOTHING historically accurate about this fucking show! It's FANSERVICE.

A commenter on a previous version of this stamp said it best; there's a time and place for fanservice and APH just didn't do it right. If you didn't use countries with offensive stereotypes (except Japan of course) stapled on instead of a functioning personality (Because creating a personality is too hard,) I wouldn't have a problem. PTSD, trenches, and genocide are fucking kawaii desu according to the fandom.

"The characters/pairings are hot!" It didn't work for Twilight, it doesn't work for Hetalia. The attractiveness of the characters doesn't make it automatically good. You could have the hottest people on the planet in a series and if the series is shit I will call it that.

"You just don't appreciate history!" Yeah, tell me, the history minor tired of pinheaded fangirls dragging this series into my classes, that I don't appreciate history. I'm the one telling you that making countries chibi doesn't change the fact they're pretty much mocking all the terrible things that happened in WWII.

Why not have Germany go out and kill Jews and Gypsies? That really happened in WWII. And let's have America lock up Japan in a camp in the middle of a fucking desert in California. That happened too! Or shoot Italy in the face without a trial. Trufax! Oh wait! That would get in the way of the *~*~*~BOILUV PAIRINGS~*~*~* my bad.

Not to mention some of the fandom is fucking INSANE. Like worse than Twilight insane.

The "can't teach you Japanese" thing is true. Anime can't teach you Japanese. It's a terrible teaching tool because most of the time, characters speak very informally. If you tried that in Japan with a stranger, you'd be punched.

Trying to make a dark would be the end of Hetalia and natives would sue for their country. Also some characters of Hetalia doesn't look like their WW2 counterparts. I hate it when most people think of ww2 when they heard history

It's true. I imagine Hetalia Germany to be a sadist, which Modern Germany (One of the good guys, he accepts Refugees, is a good cook, is cultured, is a peaceful person and hates sadism and genocide.), can't stand. So some of the comedy comes when Modern Germany says "Israel, can you deal with a problem?!" Israel then says "What problem?!" Then, Germany says "A Nazi problem." Then Israel calls the Mossad, and they, along with Modern Germany beat up the Nazi!!!

It's a UN school. UN is anti Israel. Modern countries meet up with their past selves. Modern Singapore is jealous of past Singapore. Modern Germany meanwhile, LOATHES her past.

I hate it when people judge countries because of their ww2 past, although those countries had a nice history during the BCE and early AD (if you look into Germany's past before ww2). I don't know about UN.

I'd like to see some underrated countries step up as well.

Phapha332 [2017-07-20 16:08:43 +0000 UTC]

Y'know, the pure reason why Korea wasn't shown was because the way our country was portrayed really struck a nerve within us, a huge one at that. No, we are not being "oversensitive", no, it is not "just a show" when people are going around believing that stuff and trying to use it to learn. End of story.

i'm a history nerd and a hetalia fan. i don't learn about history because of hetalia though. i just like learning about history. because i've liked history since i was seven, history can be funny at times but you still need to remember to take it Seriously. hetalia is a joke and isn't meant to be take in seriously. yes i like shipping but that doesn't mean i'm crazy about it and again i'm a history herd and i'm a shipper that doesn't mean that i don't take history seriously. history is something you should take seriously it how ever doesn't mean you can't laugh some times about it as long you remember at the end of the day to take it seriously,Β

As a fan myself, I've met other fans like you have met. Okay. I'm going to respect your opinion. They are stupid.
But you have a point there, Hetalia is offensive and the fandom is insane. True. You just have to pick out the ones who aren't stupid and insane about the entire thing and actually respect history. I'm not telling you to join the fandom, I'm just telling you that the fans who you can talk to about history without making it a 'oh this character is so hot' aren't obsessed with the show. That's all.
I'm sorry if you see an ulterior message in this, it was not intended.
Anyways, good day to you!

To be fair, the anime PURPOSELY made the countries all stereotypes, and it's helped SOME idiots to know there's more places than just America and Mexico. It introduces them to countries that even some teachers don't know! The three Baltic states? Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. Not to mention, there's that one episode where the narrator lady said some historic facts ,"so that you don't have to lie to your parents that watching anime is kick ass education." Besides, they most definitely got PART of the American stereotype right, at least, in my school: Loud, obnoxious, annoying, and self-centered. I'm ok and accept your opinion. I respect it. I agree with some of it, probably most. Wait I just realized I didn't get family notes from school.....

actually it shows really, but it's just hidden it there,
you just need to know where to look:

Poland's pony - Telling about how Poland was proud about their horse back army
Finland - "i was more free with him than you" note about that Finland got autonomy
France taking pictures wit Austria - Note of that GermanyΒ invaded France
Italy's black shirt - Mussolins fascist politican party (memebers of that wore black shirt)
/and there's more/

but i agree with you.

Fans can be idiot and not realising how idiots they are, but we have smarter fans who really read history and know whats' different between hetalia AND the real world
but i have seen only one fan service episode and it was april's fool episode.

and stereotypes are stereptypes, none should being offensed by those, every country has their own about other countries.

I really understand your opinion and i respect it, because everyone has opinion.
i'm NOT trying to protect Hetalia, becuase i know people love it or hate it or are neutral with it
and i really mean this.

and the original author didnt make stuff what they did in anime, that's animators fault.

It can if it sparks an interest. I mean, most of the stuff I know I started studying after something sparked that interest.

Yu-gi-oh (Which I watched when I was 10) - I now know a lot of Egyptian mythology... I knew more about it than my College Anthropology teacher.
Thor - God damn is Norse Mythology weird!
Hetalia - I am now studying to become a history teacher, and I'm doing pretty well, if I do say so myself. xD
Basically all Anime - I know basic Japanese (not weeaboo, which is fucking annoying) and am studying Russian as well.

Although it would be stupid to think you could learn these things from the 'form of entertainment' based on them, it doesn't mean you can't learn to love it from them.

Sure, I know you have reasons to be hating Hetalia. Sure, it's not supposed to be historical accurate, but people can be HAPPY because of this show. You don't know what those fangirls have gone through. You don't know them, so you can't say that they are 'bitches' because they enjoy a certain show!

Learning history was one of the things my cousin mentioned when trying to get me to watch Hetalia. "It's funny AND educational", she says, "unlike The garbage that American channels force you to watch." While it's MUCH better than the majority of the Disney Channel, I still don't get as much entertainment OR values out of it than an average episode of South Park.Β

Hetalia shouldn't be used to teach history.

I, for one, am offended by the character of Italy. His whole "pasta" gimmick is extremely offensive to me, an Italian-American whose maternal grandparents and great-grandparents lived in Sicily when Mussolini was dictator. Trust me, it wasn't fun for them having to worry about the Allies bombing Sicily or not getting proper medical treatment - my grandmother lost two younger siblings and her father.

Given the Axis nature of the show, I'm surprised they left out a lot of more subtle stereotypes, like the stereotype of Italy being heavily dominated by the Catholic Church (which is still a reality today) and Russia's chauvinism in regards to the Eastern European countries (Tsarist Russia oppressed practically EVERY ethnic minority within its borders - the Jews got treated badly, not to mention the oppression of the Poles, the Ukrainians, the Baltic peoples, the Finns, the Armenians, and the various Muslim ethnic groups. Some Ukrainians, Latvians, Lithuanians, Estonians, and others even collaborated with Germany for the sole reason of getting revenge on Russia).

But subtlety is thrown out the window for FANSERVICE and ethnic jokes.

And I and SICKENED by the idea of using countries as fanservice. That's like the people who have Asian fetishes - it's creepy.
