Description During our last trip, we were to the Dead sea area.
This wonderful vision we seen in Kibutz Ein Gedi (that stands near the historical ancient Ein Gedi settlement).
The Ibex is a symbol of the Kibutz and their brand of mineral water from the Ein Gedi spring (been there too ).
In the background you can see the wondrous dead sea. Apparently not as dead as some might think.

I hope you like this work, enjoy.

(C) to myself.

Yep, we seen them in David spring reserve, in small packs. But I did not get there good pictures of them... The sun was setting and my camera is not good with semi-deem lightening.

Thank you.
Depends on the area, it is hotter near the Jordan river; Beit Shean, Kineret, Dead sea, Negev and Ehuda deserts, and off course Eilat. It is better in the north (less hot) and in Jerusalem (mountains and winds - the heat is more bearable). We use Celsius units, not Fahrenheit.

Let me see 89F = 31.66C - well it could be today, it's most likely the temp. where I live.
But it easily can get to 48C = 116.6F in hot days, in Eilat they usually don't say it so not to freak people out but I think it could be even hotter.

We already have celebrated the independence day. It's date was decided according the moon Jewish calendar in hei' (5-th day) of Eyar month. The first independence day took place on 5-th of Eyar, and 14 of may 1949 - according sun international calendar. Each year it's different day according the sun calendar. This year it was on 26 of April.

On each independence day, all around the country people hang out Israeli flags out of their windows and the streets are decorated by blue-white and colorful garlands. On the independence day eve, there are free performances of beloved musicians, new groups, city children dance clubs all around Israel in many of it's cities. Children and even adults also like foam and spray on each other, and also play with puff up rubber toys that are coloured in Israeli national flag colours.
On the day after, many Israelis flood the parks with their families and fry meat on outdoor grills.

Wow! I admire your love and dedication. Is that dangerous for you to be seen reading the Torah?

Bad idea.

Besides, it only looks like there is a long falling down, actually there is small gravel heap behind the Ibex, so he won't get hurt. Besides, you should see how they climb the mountains, humans can stand aside and be envy!

Wow, amazing shot! I don't think I've ever been that close to a male ibex before. Ein Gedi was always one of my favourite places to hike. Sigh, I miss the Holy Land...

Thank you! Yes we were really lucky, we saw plenty of them!
But my camera and lightening conditions were not as good, so only few shots were successful, this is one of them.

Are they aggressive? Beautiful photo, btw!

Genny-Raskin In reply to vn37 [2012-05-22 20:46:30 +0000 UTC]

No!!! Not at all, if you do not act aggressively or don't scare them. They are used to humans, because there are a lot of tourists all around. The ibexes usually travel in groups and you should keep some distance, they are still wild animals. You should not try to pet them or to touch them.
Especially animals feel protective of their young and might be aggressive if they consider danger to their siblings, so you should keep that in mind too.
But if you move slowly, don't look straight in their eyes for too long and being calm, there should not be any problem.

Thank you, btw!
