Alice came home in a very good mood. Saying hi to her father and brother, she quickly checked the bathroom and living room, and was satisfied that they were cleaned to her liking. She headed into the kitchen. Carol had come out of her office and followed her daughter out of the living room.

Mom could sense the mood of her daughter. Alice, full of pride, explained the guardian/teacher conference. Ted was doing so well that he was helping teach all his classes.

Carol just smiled at her daughter. She told Alice that she knew how well Ted was doing throughout his school years. He was always very intelligent. He inherited the IQ of the females, if not their physical size. So class work came easy for him. She just wanted Alice to find out for herself. Part of running a household is being presented with unfamiliar situations. It’s how a woman handles them that will define her family.

Alice smiled up at her mom, and gave her hug. She then told Carol what Ted had said to her about not wanting to upset her by informing her about how well he was doing in school, because it gave her happiness to look after his grades.

Carol told her daughter that Ted was a very special brother, and the fact that he put Alice’s feelings above his proved it. The girls continued their warm embrace.

Right around 5pm, both Carol and Alice got a breaking news alert on their phones. The much discussed, and heatedly debated Men’s Working Bill had finally passed the legislature, and was heading to the president’s desk for her signature.

According to details released, there would be training sessions that would begin at the beginning of December. There would be certain classifications of jobs that men could work, that were not in the education field,as long as they had permission from the matriarch of the house.

Certain fields would remain strictly the purview of females, like labor intensive areas like construction, manufacturing, warehouse, as well as scientific, medical, and technical.

Clerical jobs would be open wide for men, as well as education teaching boys. But everything depended upon getting the woman of the house’s permission.

Alice’s phone rang. It was Fred Smith, Ted’s principal. He apologized for the intrusion, but told her that he was only calling to see if she had heard about the passage of the bill. She said she got the alert.

Fred Smith asked her if he could have her permission to change Ted’s classroom schedule, as with the prospects of him working after he graduated, then he felt they could institute a work based class into the curriculum.

Alice told him that was a wonderful idea, and she told him that he had her ok. Fred Smith asked for her email address. He told her that the school would need an official permission slip signed, and as soon as they crafted one the next morning, he would email the form to her. All she had to do was print it out, sign it, then have Ted bring it back to school.

Alice told him that she would look forward to his email, and they both said their goodbyes. Once the call was complete, she informed her mom what was going on.

Carol had a big smile on her face. She asked Alice if she would definitely sign the form, and her daughter couldn’t say yes fast enough.

Soon, Ted and Bob came into the kitchen to cook, and Alice and Carol went out into the living room to relax and watch TV.

The next morning Alice left for the bus. Ted was off for the week due to the conferences. And even though he would talk with Jackie for an hour every night, if he wasn’t there, she would seem a little down.

Soon, the girls were on their bus, and once at school, Alice received an alert. It was the email she was expecting from Ted’s principal. She opened it up and glanced at it. Very straightforward. She would print it out during her morning break, then once she was home, sign it and give it to her brother to return it to school.

The school day ended. Alice returned home. Her mother and father were sitting next to each other on the sofa. Ted was in his room. Although he had completed his cleaning assignment earlier, he decided to clean his room on his own.

Alice called down the hall for him to come to the living room. She then took a seat on the other side of her dad, and once Ted arrived, she handed him a piece of paper.

Her brother was puzzled. Alice said that his principal was going to alter his class schedule, due to the passage of the new work bill. She was handing him a permission slip that she had to sign, and he was to bring it back to his school when he returned on Monday.

Ted was a little stunned, as there hadn’t been any discussion about altering classes or changing schedules. Alice looked down into his eyes and told him everything would be fine. He would be presented with a wonderful opportunity, and she said that she believed in him.
