Description
After Mary ended her call with her mom, she made herself a cup of coffee while Jimmy washed one of his photography trays that he kept solution in. She explained about her parents coming for a visit, and how they were on the old-fashioned side, and might not be happy about the two of them living together.

Jimmy, who had encountered a lot of people with different views from his time at college, said he understood where they would be coming from, but suggested to Mary that she bring up the subject immediately, to get it out of the way.

He reasoned that if she did that, it would lift a great wait off her shoulders, as well as give her parents a chance to get to know him, and maybe help them understand that both were consenting adults. Mary agreed, but absentmindedly. Jimmy knew that it was really bothering her, but decided to give her space, so she could sort out her feelings.

It was Tuesday. Mary would get done work at 5, and her parents were due to arrive at 6, giving her time to take care of anything Jimmy didn’t get to before he went to his afternoon classes.

A nervous energy fueled her movements. She hadn’t seen her parents in almost 6 months, and she was still trying to figure out a way to explain that Jimmy was living with her.

Jimmy arrived home with a bottle of wine. Mary asked him to let her do the talking, which went against his better nature, but he ultimately agreed.

There was a knock on the door, which made Mary freeze for a second. Then she hurried towards the door, opening it, and in walked Jonathan and Martha Kent.

Jimmy saw Mary’s mom, and instantly knew where she got her beauty from. Mom and daughter hugged, while Jonathan extended his hand, which Jimmy shook, and introduced themselves to each other.

But while mom and daughter were sharing tears at their reunion, Jonathan Kent asked Jimmy if he lived close by, to which the younger man said yes. In fact, he lived with Mary.

This brought all conversations to a stop, as Mary’s father eyed up the young man standing in front of him. He glanced up at his daughter, who had a terrified expression on her face, the smile having instantly vanished as soon as the words were spoken.

Even Martha didn’t know what her husband was going to say, as he continued to gaze at Jimmy, as if he were secretly trying to peer into his mind to ascertain his intentions for his daughter.

After what seemed like an eternity, Jonathan finally said that Mary was an adult, with her own life to lead, and as long as she was happy, he was happy as well, causing Mary to cry tears of joy as she bent down to hug her father.
